Afghan Women to Unite for Peace on International Women's Day

While women across the world unite to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, women in Afghanistan’s most insecure will bravely gather for peace at a number of public events. With the main gathering in the volatile Kandahar province, women will be wearing white scarves as a symbol of peace.

The petition will be presented as a display of international support to the brave women of Kandahar and to President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan and the United Nations.

Women in Kabul and every other province of Afghanistan will express their solidarity with the Kandahar women by reading a message of peace at their local International Women's Day gatherings. The Afghan women have taken their cue from two ordinary women in Ireland who were awarded the Noble Peace prize for creating a women’s peace movement to protest violence in Ireland in the 1970’s.

"Today we drove by the site of the third suicide bomber in three days,” says Rangina Hamidi, one of the organizers of the Kandahar gathering. “We are ready to follow in the footsteps of our Irish sisters. For the past seven years Afghans have celebrated March 8th with cheap gifts given to women to honor them. This year, the women in Kandahar loudly say the best gift for us is peace in our country."

The Israeli holocaust in Gaza

The Monsters™, the self-aggrandizing perpetual victims of the "goy", are carrying out a murderous and despicable holocaust against the defenseless civilian prisoners in Gaza. And they are advertising it.

For almost a whole week, the Khazar savages that occupy historic Palestine have invaded Gaza and carried out a sustained assault on the innocent civilians. Over 130 people have lost their lives, mostly women and baby terrorists.

Even the notoriously apologetic Israeli peace group, B'Tselem has "found" that over 50% of those slaughtered in Gaza were innocent civilians. Which means it was probably more like 85% to 90%.

The only ones deserving the "jewish" label have resoundingly and vehemently condemned the Israeli's murderous activities:

In an “urgent statement” released Sunday, the Neturei Karta organization called on the world community to “stop the wild beast of the Zionist state from destroying the Palestinian people.”

“We Orthodox Jews condemn the murderous terrorism and gangsterism of the Zionist murder machine,” read the statement, reacting to the killing of as many as a hundred Palestinians, mostly innocent civilians, including some 20 children, during the past 72 hours.

The statement went only saying that “for sixty years the Zionist butchers have been expelling, occupying, ghettoizing, terrorizing and killing Palestinians who simply want their rights restored in their homeland of historic Palestine.

“We call on all peace-loving nations to take every measure to stop the madness unleashed by the Zionists and to restore the rights of the Palestinians, thereby ending all suffering and bloodshed of all people in historic Palestine.”

Despite a historic disconnect many arabs in other nations have demonstrated and protested the savage holocaust being perpetrated against innocent prisoners in Gaza.

The violence rages on. Whenever the Monsters™ have been condemned by the international community they have resorted to Mossad false flag attacks and scares like the Lockerbie Bombing (more here) and the "liquid bomb" hoax of '06, meant to distract us while they were murdering innocent people in Lebanon. The story gets bloodier by the second.

After the recitation of Surah Fatihah, Hadrat Khalifatul-Masih, may Allah be his support, proceeded.

There has been a renewed intensity in attacks on Islam, on the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be on him, and on the Holy Qur'an with an objective of defaming Islam. The reason behind these attacks is that Islam fulfills the needs of the time, and people are turning towards Islam after examining the teachings of the Qur'an. Unbiased people have pondered over the Holy Qur'an. Though just the translation does not provide the deep knowledge of the message of the Holy Qur'an, yet the ones who have a clear conscience gain some understanding.

A news item has appeared that a British journalist went to Afghanistan for social work. She was arrested by the Taliban and released on the promise that she will read the Holy Qur'an. After arriving home, on reading the Holy Qur'an, she found that there was great difference between the teachings of Islam and the treatment of women in Afghanistan. She accepted Islam. The matter received a lot of media attention. Due to her education and experience, she was hired in Qatar. She stuck to principles of truth and fairness leading to differences with the owners resulting in her separation. She took the case to court and won arguing equal rights in Islam for women. She had similar experience in a second employment. She again took the case to court and won arguing that it is the responsibility of Muslim governments to safeguard women's rights. These incidents strengthened her faith. Though her experiences were negative, her faith advanced through reading the Holy Qur¢an. Rather than maligning Islamic teachings, she carried out a jihad against those who were not following these teachings.

Such examples worry anti-Islam forces. Irrespective of the level of their affiliation with their own faith, anti-Islamic feelings force them to indulge in unbecoming practices. This is nothing new. Prophets have experienced this before and Islam now is a target as it is a great religion. Meccans stood up against Islam as it started gaining strength. 'Umar, a staunch enemy of Islam, bowed his head before the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be on him, after reading a few verses of the Holy Qur¢an. Allah elevated his status so that he became the second righteous Khalifa. After the migration of the Prophet to Medina, Jews became apprehensive of the increasing influence of Islam. Further expansion worried the kingdoms of Iran and Rome.

Today all the great powers are fearful of Islam. They have resorted to such unfair strategies against Islam that their own conscientious citizens have started raising their voices against their unfair practices. Adversarial voices rising out of the West do not represent the sentiment of the general public. Public has stood up in protest against unfair and vicious attacks.

A news lady, during an interview with our missionary, condemned the republication of the Danish cartoons, and declared that before their publication she was proud of her country. Generally people on internet and in the media have reacted strongly against the republication of Danish cartoons. Khalifatul-Masih presented numerous quotes in this respect and said that this wave against Islam is not the work of a few writers, elected officials, politicians or cartoonists but there is a hand of great powers behind these incidents who are afraid of Islamic teachings and do not want their people to know Islamic teachings, and want to establish their supremacy in the name of religion.

Khalifatul-Masih gave details of the efforts of the Ahmadiyya community in Denmark with respect to the republication of the Danish cartoons, and presented the affirmative views of the queen and parliament towards Muslims.

Continuing with a review of the attacks on Islam, Khalifatul-Masih further quoted from a book written against the sanctity of the Holy Qur'an and refuted various allegations in the book.

He further pointed out with reference to the Holy Quran and its explanation by the Promised Messiah, peace be on him, that people who live immoral and unhealthy lives cannot understand and benefit from the pristine teachings of the Qur'an. Despite it having deep meanings, it is easily comprehensible. Only special people reach the depth of its meaning though everyone is able to understand and practice its teachings. People who are filled with envy, animosity and viciousness cannot realize its beneficence, except for when they analyze it with unbiased minds. Therefore, when we hear the antagonistic views, they increase our faith as they fulfill what the Holy Qur'an told us centuries ago.

The Holy Qur'an tells us that the people who have taken up to malign the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be on him, and the Holy Qur'an will not escape the consequences, and we have seen the fulfillment of this warning throughout history. The consequences are imminent if the behavior is not changed. No false god will be able to save them when the time of consequence arrives.

We invite our adversaries to look at the teachings and contents of the Holy Qur'an attentively and discern its excellences with respect to its spiritual, moral and social guidance of mankind. The teachings of Islam are in accordance with nature but it is necessary to have a pious heart to understand them, and a purifier to guide. In this age, the Ahmadiyya community portrays the beauties of its teachings.

There is a great need for prayers these days that Muslim observe heavenly signs and abandon their misunderstandings and unite for a nobler purpose saving themselves from a grave mischief.

At the close of the sermon, Khlaifatul-Masih relayed the sad news of the martyrdom of Basharat Ahmad Mughal in Karachi, Pakistan, and shared the details of the incident and the services if the martyred for the local chapter and his efforts in establishing a mosque in the chapter. He was shot numerous times while on his way to the mosque for the pre-dawn prayer services. He had entered in community in 1988 along with his family.

Five Large-Scale Attempts To Change The Course Of
Human Evolution

Charles Darwin first explained the principles of sexual selection in his controversial book The Descent of Man (1871). Ever since then, people have wanted to tinker with human evolution via artificial sexual selection. Dictators, mad doctors, and crazed social scientists have proposed -- and even carried out -- human breeding experiments aimed at improving the species. For some definition of "improving." Here are five of the most bizarre and tragic experiments with human evolution from the last century.

The Eugenics Movement

The most famous example of eugenics in action is Adolf Hitler's forced breeding program, in which SS officers systematically impregnated women deemed to be appropriately Aryan. The children, bred in a program called Lebensborn, were supposed to be the beginning of a new master race. Hitler's evolutionary intervention also involved genocides of "undesirables," because while you're building a new race, why not get rid of the supposedly undesirable ones too? The Eugenics movement didn't start with Hitler, though. It had a long, rich history that began in the nineteenth century and was very popular in the United States. Early twentieth-century country fairs in the U.S. often featured eugenics contests at country fairs, with awards going to the most "genetically sound" white families. Below, you can see a group of girls from a 4H club who won in a genetic fitness contest circa 1925.

Nicolae Ceausescu's Decree No. 770

In the late 1960s, Romanian dictator Ceausescu decided that the population of his country needed to grow much larger to provide strapping workers for industrial labor. First he tried to reward women who had several babies, but that program didn't work quickly enough. So in 1966, he outlawed abortion. Women were forbidden from using contraception, and underwent fertility checks at work. In 1967, the birth rate in the country doubled. The children born that year were called Decreteii, or children of the decree. Many suffered or died young because they were unwanted or had been born under adverse circumstances.

Chinese 1 Child Per Couple Policy

To cut back on its population, the Chinese government in the early 1980s mandated that each couple may have only one child or suffer penalties. There have been widespread reports of couples choosing to abort or abandon girl children. In some areas of the country, this breeding program has turned homo sapiens into a species whose male population exceeds its female population by 163.5 to 100. Apparently the UN recommends a "normal" ratio is no more than 107 to 100.

Clonaid

Clonaid is a company that purports to be engaging in human cloning, specifically to change the human species. They were embroiled in scandal when it was revealed that many Clonaid "scientists" were members of the Raelian cult (or religion, depending on how you feel about it) that believed humans were descended from cloned aliens. Scientists from Clonaid claim to have cloned a human, though they offer no concrete proof. So far, they have had zero impact on human evolution, but get points for trying to achieve evolutionary intervention via publicity.

Fertility Treatments and IVF

Two years ago, 3 million babies had been born world-wide thanks to IVF and other fertility treatments. In a scenario of pure, wild Darwinian sexual selection, none of those babies would have been born. Those 3 million plus babies represent a dramatic shift in human evolution that we are only beginning to understand.

Machines will achieve human-level artificial intelligence by 2029, a leading US inventor has predicted.

Humanity is on the brink of advances that will see tiny robots implanted in people's brains to make them more intelligent, said Ray Kurzweil.

The engineer believes machines and humans will eventually merge through devices implanted in the body to boost intelligence and health.

"It's really part of our civilisation," Mr Kurzweil explained.

"But that's not going to be an alien invasion of intelligent machines to displace us."

Machines were already doing hundreds of things humans used to do, at human levels of intelligence or better, in many different areas, he said.

Man versus machine

"I've made the case that we will have both the hardware and the software to achieve human level artificial intelligence with the broad suppleness of human intelligence including our emotional intelligence by 2029," he said.

"We're already a human machine civilisation; we use our technology to expand our physical and mental horizons and this will be a further extension of that."

Humans and machines would eventually merge, by means of devices embedded in people's bodies to keep them healthy and improve their intelligence, predicted Mr Kurzweil.

"We'll have intelligent nanobots go into our brains through the capillaries and interact directly with our biological neurons," he told BBC News.

The nanobots, he said, would "make us smarter, remember things better and automatically go into full emergent virtual reality environments through the nervous system".

Mr Kurzweil is one of 18 influential thinkers chosen to identify the great technological challenges facing humanity in the 21st century by the US National Academy of Engineering.

The experts include Google founder Larry Page and genome pioneer Dr Craig Venter.

The 14 challenges were announced at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Boston, which concludes on Monday.

If you need information, the Internet offers a wealth of resources. But if you're hunting down a person or a thing, a computer's not much help. That may soon change. Electronic tags promise to create what some call the "Internet of things," in which objects and people are connected through a virtual network.

To see what this future world would be like, a pilot project involving dozens of volunteers in the University of Washington's computer science building provides the next step in social networking, wirelessly monitoring people and things in a closed environment.

Beginning in March, volunteer students, engineers and staff will wear electronic tags on their clothing and belongings to sense their location every five seconds throughout much of the six-story building. The information will be saved to a database, published to Web pages and used in various custom tools. The project is one of the largest experiments looking at wireless tags in a social setting.

The RFID Ecosystem project aims to create a world that many technology experts predict is just on the horizon, said project leader Magda Balazinska, a UW assistant professor of computer science and engineering. The project explores the use of radio-frequency identification, or RFID, tags in a social environment. The team has installed some 200 antennas in the Paul Allen Center for Computer Science and Engineering.

Early next month researchers will begin recruiting 50 volunteers from about 400 people who regularly use the building.

"Our goal is to ask what benefits can we get out of this technology and how can we protect people's privacy at the same time," Balazinska said. "We want to get a handle on the issues that would crop up if these systems become a reality."

The Ecosystem can alert users when they have left something behind.

Many businesses already use RFID tags to track products in the supply chain. Now the tool is moving to other areas. Some transit agencies use radio tags in bus and train passes. The new U.S. passports incorporate RFID tags. Technology experts predict that RFID tags will soon be incorporated in consumer devices, such as cell phones, laptops and music players.

Each tag, which looks a bit like a thin, flexible credit card, costs about 20 cents to produce. A specialized reader can scan the card through any non-metal barrier and from up to 30 feet away, depending on the type of tag. RFID tags are miniature computer chips that contain far more information than a barcode. Also, you can write to an RFID tag--meaning the signal could not only identify the item, but what group it belongs to, when it was last seen, and other information.

The technology has already proven its use in tracking goods. A manufacturer can identify a cart of hamburger patties and know which plant it came from, when it shipped out and a history of its temperature during transit. UW computer-science staff members have already requested to participate in the study so that they will be able to track their equipment as it is moved through the building.

But for people, the technology's power raises questions. An RFID card can be read from a distance and without the wearer's knowledge. The associated databases archive vast amounts of information.

"What if RFID readers were everywhere, and everything had RFID tags? What are the pluses and minuses? What do you do with all that data?" said Gaetano Borriello, a UW professor of computer science and engineering. "In computer science, we try to create a future world that doesn't exist yet. We'd like to get some experience rather than just conjecture about this."

Separate tags are attached to a purse, book, name badge and laptop adaptor (clockwise from top left).

The researchers received human subjects approval to conduct the trial. Each participant will be able to control who can see his or her data, and can delete any data or opt out of the study at any time without explanation or penalty. Researchers also note that they have not placed any RFID readers near bathrooms or eating areas, because these are considered personal spaces.

Study volunteers will be interviewed periodically. The researchers will be assessing both positive aspects, such as keeping track of everything from where you lost your laptop charger to where your friends are meeting for coffee, and negative aspects in terms of loss of privacy.

"Even if you wanted to study just privacy, or just utility, you'd have to study the other as well," said Evan Welbourne, a UW doctoral student in computer science and engineering. "People are more likely to give out information if there's a benefit to them. You can't really separate issues of privacy from issues of utility."

Research members have been testing the system on themselves. Over the past year, all 10 members of the group have worn the tags on their necks and placed them on certain belongings. Balazinska set the system so that she can't see her students, but she allows them to access her data. The students occasionally used the alerts to catch their adviser on her way out of the building. Many members of the team reported using the database to find out where they had left their belongings.

The pilot study will incorporate two new student-developed features that aim to exploit the system's potential benefits. One invention is a tool that records a person's movements in Google Calendar. Study participants can set the system to instantaneously publish activities on their Web calendar, such as arrival at work, meetings or lunch breaks.

"It's a perfect memory system that records all your personal interactions throughout the day," Welbourne said. "You can go back a day later, a month later, and see, 'What did I do that day?' or, 'Who have I spent my time with lately?'"

Another tool is a friend finder, named RFIDder (pronounced "fritter"). This sends instant alerts to participants' e-mail addresses or cell phones telling them when friends are in certain places. With RFIDder, each user can specify who is allowed to see their data. They can change the settings at any time, and can easily turn it off whenever they don't want to be found. The system will link to Twitter, an online blog that lets people post their whereabouts online.

"We want to observe how a group of people uses these tools, whether they find them useful, how they adapt them," Balazinska said.

Researchers are also devising ways to deal with the many technical challenges involved in sorting RFID data. As data floods in, the researchers would like to make sense of it. They also want to develop a main database where people can find the information they need, but can't abuse it by looking at too much of other people's personal information. Proposals include systems that would impose a cost for looking up certain types of information, or that would let people see who is accessing their data.

A major research focus is extracting information from imperfect data. Metal can block the RFID signal and using the data to figure out people's actual position is tricky. Current systems combine artificial intelligence and database techniques to produce usable information, Balazinska said.

"This is a major project that has many facets," Balazinska said. "We worry that these technologies are being implemented too quickly, and with this system we want to explore it in a controlled environment, to inform the public and policymakers about issues we might face."

The project is funded by the National Science Foundation, Microsoft Research and the UW's College of Engineering.

Palestinians woke up early Thursday on what it seemed to be their regular alarm, the sound of Israeli rockets and raids. And instead of bidding farewell to nine martyrs, now they have to mourn 28, including eight children.

Israeli occupation security forces struck a range of targets in the West Bank and Gaza Strip on Thursday, killing a total of 15 Palestinians, including four children. The deaths come a day after the occupation army martyred 13 Palestinians. Early Thursday evening, an Israel Air Force helicopter attacked a police roadblock near the Gaza City home of Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, in which Palestinian officials said one person was martyred and four others wounded.

Four children - all under the age of 16 and three from the same family - were martyred in an IAF strike in Jabalya, a refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip. Another IAF attack in northern Gaza a short while later martyred a Hamas resistance fighter. Earlier, IAF aircraft struck northern Gaza, killing another Hamas member and one other person.

On Thursday morning, three resistance fighters were martyred in an Israeli strike in the Gaza neighborhood of Sajaiya. Two of the men martyred belonged to the Popular Resistance Committees' military wing and the third was a Hamas fighter. Palestinian sources reported that another fighter was wounded in the strike.

In the Gaza City neighborhood of Zeitoun, an IAF strike martyred two Hamas members, including son of senior Hamas lawmaker, Khalil al-Haya. The group said he had commanded a rocket-launching squad in northern Gaza. Al-Haya is one of Hamas' top figures in Gaza, and has escaped assassination attempts, including an IAF strike that killed his brother last year.

Visiting the morgue at Gaza City's Shifa hospital Thursday, Khalil al-Haya said he was proud that his son had lost his life for the Hamas cause, like many of his relatives. "I thank God for this gift, he said. This is the 10th member of my family to receive the honor of martyrdom."

Two other Palestinian resistance fighters were martyred by the occupation army during an operation in the West Bank town of Nablus, local sources reported. One of the martyrs belonged to the Popular Front's armed wing – the Abu Mustafa Brigades, and the other was a member of Fatah's military wing, the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades. Six other Palestinians were injured in the attack.

Moreover, overnight Israeli aircraft struck the empty office of Haniyeh and nearby premises of his Interior Ministry, killing a 6-month old baby and wounding more than 30 other people. Earlier on Wednesday, three Palestinian children were killed in an Israeli strike in the northern Gaza Strip. The children were aged 10, 12, and 14. Occupation army also killed nine Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank; five of the martyrs belonged to Hamas military wing.

Hamas retaliated for the Israeli crimes by launching more 50 Qassam rockets in 24 hours into the western Negev town of Sderot and the surrounding communities killing one Israeli settler and wounding several others. Many settlers were treated for shock.

One of the wounded was an officer belonging to Israeli Internal Security Minister Avi Dichter's protection detail. The security officer was at the place for preliminary scouting of the area in preparation for the minister's visit.

ABBAS: ARMED 'RESISTANCE' NOT RULED OUT
On Thursday, PA President Mahmoud Abbas said that he does not rule out returning to the path of armed "resistance" against Israel and took pride in the fact that he had been the first to fire on Israel in 1965. In an interview with the Jordanian daily al-Dustur, Abbas said that he was opposed to an armed struggle against Israel - for the time being. "At this present juncture, I am opposed to the armed struggle because we can't succeed in it, but maybe in the future things will be different," he said.

The Clintons are desperately trying to spin this away, with President Priapus denouncing Obama's antiwar record as "a fairy tale" and The New Republic rather more subtly suggesting "Obama himself may understand that the issue is more complicated than his condemnations of Hillary Clinton's judgment." That's the last line of a rather curious piece by Michael Crowley, whose microscopic examination of Obama's public pronouncements on the war question might have been published by Antiwar.com – except for that last line.

It is a piece that starts out by chronicling Obama's memorable performance at a 2002 antiwar rally in Chicago – when very few mainstream politicians were showing up at antiwar events – and charts his subsequent equivocations, wobbles, and doubts, slyly implying that he's not really all that far away from being a calculating Clintonian himself. Crowly cites the Clintonites' contention that the liberal district he hailed from in Chicago meant he wasn't really going out on a limb in opposing the war early on, an argument that makes no sense when one remembers he was getting ready to run for US Senate. Statewide, support for the war, while not as fervent as in some other regions of the country, was generally reflective of the post-9/11 hysteria that made warmongering such a lucrative profession for so many. As Thomas B. Edsall pointed out in the Huffington Post:

"Among all Illinois voters, 17 percent said the U.S. should attack Iraq with or without allied support, 51 percent said an attack should be initiated only with the backing of allies, and 18 percent said the U.S. should not attack at all. Among Democrats, only 8 percent backed a unilateral invasion of Iraq, 59 percent said the US should attack only with broad allied support and 23 percent opposed any military action."

People wanted more evidence that an attack was necessary – 52 percent – but, in general, the good people of Illinois went along with the national zeitgeist, which was all about "taking out" Saddam Hussein and showing those Ay-rabs who's in charge. After all, a mere 23 percent opposed going to war at all, and that's where Obama was. The only reason he avoided paying the political price was due to extraordinary luck: his principal opponent in the Democratic primary was hit with a major scandal and effectively knocked out of the race. The same fate befell his putative Republican opponent – and the eventual GOP nominee, Alan Keyes, was never a credible opponent to begin with.

So, yes, it took courage to come out against the war at that point. Remember, the post-9/11 Bizarro Effect still had most of the country in its hallucinatory grip, and the War Party and the "mainstream" media were collaborating on a propaganda campaign of unprecedented ferocity, broadcasting brazen lies as if they were fact and trying to bully anyone who defied them, e.g. Democrats Mike Thompson, Jim McDermott and David Bonior.

Yet there was more than courage on display at that rally. There was also Obama's prescience. It's odd that Crowley opens his piece with the scene from that rally, but somehow neglects to report what Obama said:

"What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other armchair, weekend warriors in this administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne....

"I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power. He has repeatedly defied UN resolutions, thwarted UN inspection teams, developed chemical and biological weapons, and coveted nuclear capacity. He's a bad guy. The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him.

"But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history. I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a US occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. With most of the rest of the country swept up in an emotional rush of belligerence-in-search-of-a-target, Obama kept his cool and clearly perceived the facts as most of us would later come to see them. This is called judgement – another name for it is leadership.

That's why he's winning, beating Hillary and her much-vaunted "machine," and why the Clintonites have half-unveiled their ultimate weapon: the dreaded "super-delegates," primed to snatch the nomination away from Obama and his majority of pledged (i.e. elected) delegates at the last moment. Furthermore, he looks, acts, and sounds like a president, whereas Hillary merely reminds one of a high school class president (and Edwards the prom king).

The global proceeds of the Afghan drug trade is in excess of 150 billion dollars a year. There is mounting evidence that this illicit trade is protected by the US military.

Historically, starting in the early 1980s, the Afghan drug trade was used to finance CIA covert support of the Islamic brigades. The 2003 war on Afghanistan was launched following the Taliban government's 2000-2001 drug eradication program which led to a collapse in opium production in excess of 90 percent.

The following report, which accuses the United States of using military transport planes to ship narcotics out of Afghanistan confirms what is already known and documented regarding the Golden Crescent Drug Trade and its insiduous relationship to US intelligence.

Could it be that the American military in Afghanistan is involved in drug trafficking? Yes, it is quite possible, according to Russia’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov.

Commenting on reports that the United States military transport aviation is used for shipping narcotics out of Afghanistan, the Russian envoy said there was no smoke without fire.

“If such actions do take place they cannot be undertaken without contact with Afghans, and if one Afghan man knows this, at least a half of Afghanistan will know about this sooner or later,” Kabulov told Vesti, Russia’s 24-hour news channel. “That is why I think this is possible, but cannot prove it.”

Afghan narcotics are an extremely painful issue for Russia. They first hit the Russian market during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan in the 1980s when Russian soldiers developed a taste for Afghan heroin and smuggled it back to Russia.

The disintegration of the Soviet Union in December 1991 threw open the floodgates of drug trafficking from Afghanistan across Central Asia to Russia and further west to Europe. Afghanistan’s narcotics struck Russia like a tsunami, threatening to decimate its already shrinking population. According to the Federal Drug Control Service, 90 per cent of all heroin sold in Russia comes from Afghanistan. Russia today has about six million drug-users – a 20-fold increase since the collapse of the Soviet Union and a huge figure for a country of 142 million people.

The Federal Drug Control Service said earlier in January that as many as 30 to 40 million people in Russia may have tried drugs at least once. Annually, some 80,000 Russians die of drug-related causes. One in five crimes committed in Russia is related to drugs. The illegal drug turnover in Russia is estimated at between $10 and $15 billion, discounting transit trafficking.

Narcotics have become an integral part of the youth subculture in Russia. In Moscow alone narcotics are sold at about 100 discotheques and cafes frequented by young people, the city drug control service reported in December. About 45 per cent of Russian university students use drugs, according to Russian Minister for Education and Science Andrei Fursenko. He described the situation as “critical”. The Moscow city government plans to introduce mandatory drug tests for all students in the Russian capital this year. Schoolchildren may be next in line for screening: some surveys indicate that four out of five young Russians are familiar with drugs. The Russian Parliament is planning to discuss a law to allow compulsory treatment of drug and alcohol addicts.

President Vladimir Putin has described the drug abuse problem as a “national calamity”. The catastrophic rise in drug addiction in Russia has been spurred by the painful transition from socialism to capitalism that Russia has been going through since 1991. Millions lost their jobs and were reduced to abject poverty during Russia’s worst-ever economic meltdown in the 1990s. But external factors have played a crucial role in the spread of drugs. Last year Putin bluntly stated that Russia and Europe had been victims of “narco-aggression”.

When the Soviet Union broke up into 15 independent states, Moscow overnight lost control of nearly 5,000 kilometres of former Soviet borders in Central Asia and the Caucasus. At the same time, nearly 8,000 km of what used to be internal nominal boundaries between ex-Soviet republics became Russia’s new state borders.

In 1993, Russian border guards returned to Tajikistan in an effort to contain the flow of drugs from opium-producing Afghanistan. In 2002 alone they intercepted 6.7 tonnes of drugs, half of them heroin. However, in 2005 Tajik President Imomali Rakhmon, hoping to win financial aid from the U.S., asked the Russian border guards to leave, saying Tajikistan had recovered enough from a five-year civil war (from 1992-97) to shoulder the task. Within months of the Russian withdrawal, cross-border drug trafficking increased manifold.

Turkmenistan, another major opium route from Afghanistan, threw out Russian border guards in 1999. Since 2000, Turkmenistan has reported no drug seizures to international organisations. President Saparmurat Niyazov, who died last year, claimed his country had no drug problem. However, independent surveys indicate that up to half of Turkmenistan’s male population use drugs. In 2002, the country’s Prosecutor-General Kurbanbibi Atadzhanova was arrested for operating a drug-trafficking ring.

Seventeen years after the break-up of the Soviet Union, borders between the newly independent states are still porous and travel is visa-free. Air passengers arriving from Central Asia are routinely screened for drugs in Russian airports, but if drugs are shipped by land, there is only a remote chance that they get intercepted.

Afghanistan under the U.S.

When Russia backed the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan to crush the Taliban and Al Qaeda in the post-9/11 scenario, the last thing it expected to happen was that drug trafficking from Afghanistan would assume gargantuan proportions under the U.S. military. Since 2001, poppy fields, once banned by the Taliban, have mushroomed again. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Afghanistan produced 8,200 tonnes of opium last year, enough to make 93 per cent of the world’s heroin supply.

The U.S.-led North Atlantic Treaty Organisation [NATO] forces in the country have not only failed to eliminate the terrorist threat from the Taliban, but also presided over a spectacular rise in opium production. Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Afghanistan was on the brink of becoming a “narco state”.

Narco business has emerged as virtually the only economy of Afghanistan and is valued at some $10 billion a year. Opium trade is estimated by the U.N. to be equivalent to 53 per cent of the country’s official economy and is helping to finance the Taliban.

“Unfortunately, they [NATO] are doing nothing to reduce the narcotic threat from Afghanistan even a tiny bit,” Putin angrily remarked three years ago. He accused the coalition forces of “sitting back and watching caravans haul drugs across Afghanistan to the former Soviet Union and Europe.” As time went by, Russian suspicions regarding the U.S. role in the rise of a narco state in Afghanistan grew deeper, especially after reports from Iraq said that the cultivation of opium poppies was spreading rapidly there too.

“The Americans are working hard to keep narco business flourishing in both countries,” says Mikhail Khazin, president of the consultancy firm Niakon. “They consistently destroy the local infrastructure, pushing the local population to look for illegal means of subsistence. And the CIA [Central Intelligence Agency] provides protection to drug trafficking.”

U.S. freelance writer Dave Gibson recalled in an article published in American Chronicle in December what a U.S. foreign intelligence official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told NewsMax.com in March 2002 of the CIA’s record of involvement with the international drug trade. The official said: “The CIA did almost the identical thing during the Vietnam War, which had catastrophic consequences – the increase in the heroin trade in the USA beginning in the 1970s is directly attributable to the CIA. The CIA has been complicit in the global drug trade for years, so I guess they just want to carry on their favourite business.”

by American transport aircraft to the U.S. airbases in Kyrgyzstan and Turkey.

Now Russia has joined the fray accusing the U.S. military of involvement in the heroin trafficking from Afghanistan to Europe. The Vesti channel’s report from Afghanistan said that drugs from Afghanistan were hauled by American transport aircraft to the U.S. airbases Ganci in Kyrgyzstan and Incirlik in Turkey.

The Ganci Air Force base at the Manas international airport in Kyrgyzstan was set up in late 2001 as a staging post for military operations inside Afghanistan. The Kyrgyz government threatened to close the base after neighbouring Uzbekistan shut down a similar U.S. airbase on its territory in 2005, but relented after Washington agreed to make a one-off payment of $150 million in the form of an assistance package and to pay $15 million a year for the use of the base.

One of the best-informed Russian journalists on Central Asia, Arkady Dubnov, recently quoted anonymous Afghan sources as saying that “85 per cent of all drugs produced in southern and southeastern provinces are shipped abroad by U.S. aviation.”

A well-informed source in Afghanistan’s security services told the Russian journalist that the American military acquired drugs through local Afghan officials who dealt with field commanders in charge of drug production.

Writing in the Vremya Novostei daily, Dubnov claimed that the pro-Western administration of President Hamid Karzai, including his two brothers, Kajum Karzai and Akhmed Vali Karzai, are head-to-heels involved in the narcotics trade.

The article quoted a leading U.S. expert on Afghanistan, Barnett Rubin, as telling an anti-narcotics conference in Kabul last October that “drug dealers had infiltrated Afghani state structures to the extent where they could easily paralyse the work of the government if decision to arrest one of them was ever made.”

Former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Richard Holbrooke said in January that “government officials, including some with close ties to the presidency, are protecting the drug trade and profiting from it.”

In an article carried by Washington Post, the diplomat described the $1-billion-a-year U.S. counter-narcotics effort in Afghanistan as “the single most ineffective programme in the history of American foreign policy.”

“It’s not just a waste of money. It actually strengthens the Taliban and Al Qaeda, as well as criminal elements within Afghanistan,” Holbrooke wrote in the The Washington Post in early January.

It is an open question whether the Russian charges of U.S. complicity in drug trafficking are based on hard evidence or have been prompted by Moscow’s frustration at Washington’s failure to address the opium problem in Afghanistan. But it is a fact that the U.S. and NATO have stonewalled numerous offers of cooperation from the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and the Moscow-led Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO), a defence pact of six former Soviet republics.

Nikolai Bordyuzha, CSTO Secretary-General, quoted a Pentagon general as telling him: “We are not fighting narcotics because this is not our task in Afghanistan.”

Instead of joining hands with the SCO and the CSTO in combating the narcotics threat, the CSTO chief said, the U.S. was working to set up rival security structures in the region. Washington is working to “drive a geopolitical wedge between Central Asian countries and Russia and to reorient the region towards the U.S.”, Bordyuzha said last year.

With the U.S. and NATO rebuffing their cooperation offers, Russia, China and the Central Asian states have to rely on their own forces in combating the narcotics threat from Afghanistan. The CSTO has been running a wide-ranging aid and military assistance programme for Afghanistan, which includes training Afghan anti-narcotic police.

Larry Davis, a former New York city resident with the persona of an 80's hood folkloric figure, was assassinated in Shawanga Concentration Camp in Upstate New York, reportedly on February 19th after being shanked (knifed) numerous times, while he was in captivity. Larry Davis' name is huge in the streets of Black ghettos across Amerikkka, because he was drug dealer who worked directly for the pigs, and wanted to quit, so the police sent a hit squad to kill him. When they kicked in his door, they were met with gunfire and a number of the officers who were sent to assassinate him, were seriously injured, while Larry escaped. 17 days later, he was cornered and taken captive.

I felt like this was a very important interview to bring to the community because of all of this media push behind this drug dealing government agent Frank Lucas in the recent box-office release “American Gangster” being viewed as the “kingpin” behind the heroin boom of the 60's and 70's that was coming out of the Vietnam War affected areas instead of the U.S. Government, the real masterminds behind the drug trade. Larry Davis' story is free of any government sanctioned embellishments. Larry was working for the police. He didn't want to do it any more, so they tried to kill him. He shot some of them in that particular police home invasion, and got away, and eventually was captured. After B.E.T., the makers of the television series “American Gangster” contacted Larry Davis, who was being held captive, about doing his story, he ended up dead.

To discuss this in part 1 of this series of articles, I have Barry Davis, the nephew of Larry Davis, and POCC Chairman Fred Hampton Jr to discuss the life of Larry Davis, in context to the politics of the American government and the devious role that it continues to play in the drug trade in the Black community. MOI JR: Who is your uncle Larry Davis?

Barry Davis: Larry Davis is basically a person who went to war with the cops. He was a young guy caught up in the middle of a bunch of turmoil in New York city streets, took a couple of wrong turns, and tried to come out of that the best way that he could, and did it the best way that he could. And that was by defending himself, and he got it done.

MOI JR: Can you give us a more in depth history of who Larry Davis is, I understand that he was a kingpin, in the New York area, that was working directly for the police at one point?

Barry Davis: At one point, you know? I wouldn't say that he was a kingpin, I would say that he was more of a pawn, and the real kingpins were the police that he was working for.

MOI JR: No doubt. Can you talk about a little bit about his relationship with the police and how it went sour?

Barry Davis: Be it that I was kind of young during the time, from my perspective of what was going on be it that I was there, was that he was a soldier working for them, and decided, because you gotta understand his fam and background because he comes from a real baptist background, everybody goes to church on Sunday, and his mother and father they were there. Being from that background, he knew what he was doing, and when he tried to come up out of that, they wouldn't let him, because he was making so much money for them. And the way he did it, they just couldn't allow for it to go down like that. He had to do what he had to do.

MOI JR: What year did he catch his case, and could you tell the people a little bit about his case?

Barry Davis: Around the time, '86, that's when he did what he had to do with these police officers, but when he had his run, it was prior to that, you're talking about maybe '82-'86. From then, he was just running around doing what the police had him doing; drugs, strongarm or whatever. Whatever they needed for him to do, that's what he was doing for them.

MOI JR: Was he reportin' directly to the police in uniform, or was he reporting to pigs that were undercover?

Barry Davis: Yes, more or less, they were plain clothes police; detectives that we called Sullivan and Crazy Joe. Those were the guys that he was working for.

MOI JR: What was he charged with?

Barry Davis: He was convicted of some alleged murder of some drug dealer. But the actual shooting of the cops, he beat that hands down. You know, he never was convicted of shooting those cops. He won that. That particular trial he won, but they got him on some underhanded, lowdown, out of the public eye conviction on some drug dealer in the Bronx. And that's what they convicted him on. He got that life sentence on that.

MOI JR: When did the family hear that Larry Davis was assassinated?

Barry Davis: It's still kind of hard to believe, because it is so fresh going through my head. It has been kind of speedy the last couple of days, but I'm gonna do my best with that one. We got the word Tuesday night that something had happened to him, and Wednesday morning was the conformation that he was killed in Shawanga. You know that there is an ongoing investigation as we speak, so as from what I'm understanding now is that we might have been two days late on the information, with them actually contacting us, that anything that happened to him.

MOI JR: Do we have any details around the assassination?

Barry Davis: Not at this particular time, you know its real sketchy, and we won't know anything until further inquiry on what's going on.

MOI JR: Many of us believe that there is a bigger plot at hand, but who is the particular assassin in this case, the one who's hand was on the weapon?

Barry Davis: Actually I don't have too much information on this guy, as far as I know his name is Luis Carsadio, but none of that is really sticking with us right now, just cause how everything went down, from what we are understanding right now. We can't really point no fingers on anything right now.

MOI JR: Chairman Fred, can you give the people a backdrop as to what was happening in the waning years of the Black Power Movement, where drugs were flooded into these neighborhoods, and could you speak about what you know about the case of Larry Davis?

Ch. Fred: First and foremost let me extend my condolences to Brotha Barry and the entire family, and even to the community because it is a lost to the entire community. The deal is that the drug economy that was pushed on the Black and other oppressed communities was and is a “illegal capitalist economy”. And I say a quote on quote illegal capitalist economy, because the fact is that every economy that this government got going; everything from the prison economy to many of the 9 to 5 jobs that go on out here, in fact we got this term that when people have a job we say “you are going to the plantation”, because this whole system is illegitimate and illegal, but in particular it was the drug-imposed economy on our people. A majority of these brothas and sistas, in fact none of them, engaged in the drug trade out of their own volition. I just want to re-iterate what brotha Barry pointed out, that by no means could Larry Davis or any other force in the community be defined as a kingpin because in reality we know who the real gangsters are; the Ronald Reagans, the Bushes, the Rockefellers, and so on and so forth. So again, the way that we must view anybody that engaged in hustling or whatever, is that it is a drug imposed economy by force one way or another or whether it be by the direct, pigs planting stuff on brothas and sistas in the community, or just limiting access to any other ways to resources or means of survival to people in the community and saying that this is your “option”. And a lot of people say that I don't believe that the government makes people sell drugs, on the contrary they do in one way or the other.

I just want to point out to that Larry Davis, and so many other forces was a victim, and Larry Davis was the average cat but again not the average cat. He was a victim who took the position that he was going to be a fighting back victim. And he is a symbolism of defiance, a symbolism that transcended the borderlines of New York, where people throughout the world felt like he, in laymen's terms, had the right to liberty and self-determination, and regardless of how many badges, or guns, or how many law books, or Constitutions, or rules that the system may run down to him, this brotha felt that he had a right to life, and he moved in defense of his life, and he took a courageous stance, and stood and still stands as a symbolism of resistance.

The easiest way to carry out a false flag attack is by setting up a military exercise that simulates the very attack you want to carry out. As I'll detail below, this is exactly how government perpetrators in the US and UK handled the 9/11 and 7/7 "terror" attacks, which were in reality government attacks blamed on "terrorists."

Although ill health keeps me from working as hard in the area of false flag analysis as I used to, the urging of independent editors and brother intelligence officers has prompted me to write this essay. I'll keep it short for readers with limited time, but I will include invaluable links for those who want to delve deeper and understand better.

My aim, as a former military intelligence officer who spent five years with the U.S. Army 75th Division conducting military war games, is to convince the American people that the "next 9/11" -- constantly promised by officials and the media -- is likely to be carried out under the guise of future military exercises. If the American people are aware of pending exercises and the danger they represent, then the exercises cannot "go live" and effect the very terror events that they are supposed to be rehearsing against.

Military Exercises

The 9/11, 2001 attacks in the United States and the 7/7, 2005 attacks in the United Kingdom both have smoking guns proving that the mass murderers were not foreign terrorists but domestic tyrants. Each country's government was conducting military exercises that simulated the exact events that were to occur.

The US 9/11 Commission stumbled across strong evidence of treason by Dick Cheney when it interviewed Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta, who was present in Cheney's famous command bunker as Flight 77 sped toward Washington, DC. Cheney was at the center of national military exercises simulating terrorist hijackings of US aircraft -- at the very time that those hijackings were occurring in real life. On May 23, 2003, Secretary Mineta testified:

"During the time that the airplane was coming in to the Pentagon, there was a young man who would come in and say to the Vice President, "The plane is 50 miles out." "The plane is 30 miles out." And when it got down to "the plane is 10 miles out," the young man also said to the Vice President, "Do the orders still stand?" And the Vice President turned and whipped his neck around and said, "Of course the orders still stand. Have you heard anything to the contrary?"

It goes without saying that serious media inquiry would quickly ferret out the facts demonstrating high treason in the cases of 9/11 and 7/7. It also goes without saying, unfortunately, that the traitors behind the two false flag attacks understood this very well, and would not have done what they did without a green light from a collaborative media.

Three World Trade Center buildings collapsed in New York City on September 11, 2001: WTC 1 and WTC 2 (the Twin Towers) in the morning, and WTC 7 (the Salomon Building) at 5:20 p.m. EST. Given that all three buildings were said to be unexpected collapses by all official sources, there is no good reason -- except for complicity -- to explain how it is that the BBC reported the collapse of WTC 7 twenty minutes before it happened:

The owner of all three buildings was Larry Silverstein, who had recently doubled the insurance value of the Twin Towers. Amazingly, "Lucky Larry," later stated in a PBS interview that he and the New York Fire Department agreed to a controlled demolition of WTC 7. Since skyscrapers are not wired for demolition -- unless someone intends to demolish them -- Silverstein's statement is an admission that 9/11 was an inside job:

"The Noble Lie"

I believe that on the strength of the five YouTube links above an objective investigation would have more than enough evidence to warrant impeachment of Bush and Cheney on a charge of high treason, and to summon a grand jury that would indict many others on charges of high treason against Larry Silverstein and other apparent 9/11 collaborators. I believe that the American people, if presented with a single news story containing the five YouTube links above, would demand that the case of high treason be carried to its logical conclusion.

Congress, though, won't impeach the president. The mainstream media, for which I used to write, will not investigate and report the story. The military that was used as a tool to mass murder American citizens will not take action against traitors in uniform who knew exactly what they were doing on 9/11, or the many more uniformed dupes who thought they were conducting military exercises until the events of 9/11 occurred. To this day there have been no adverse actions -- which would require investigation and evaluation -- against any military person involved in what even official apologists call the greatest defense failure in American history. All of this shows that the fix is in, and that we are in a fix.

The high officials, media executives and military officers who are bound by law and ethics to serve the American people have become a textbook example of a grand conspiracy. To look at it from their point of view, they are historic actors who are beyond good and evil, who must stimulate the American people to a necessary geostrategic adventure by any means necessary. To them, the official account of the 9/11 "terror" attacks is what Plato once described as the "noble lie," a necessary falsehood told to a childlike public in order to direct it maturely. The simple fact is that 9/11 has justified an attempt to seize and control the ultimate geostrategic resource: oil. He who controls Middle East oil controls the world.

Top Three US Target Cities

Last year I published "Next 9/11, Summer 2007?" in response to the same kind of requests that have led me to publish this essay as a 2008 update. My 2007 three most likely cities for the next 9/11 were Houston, Chicago and Portland. This year the same three cities are still most endangered, in light of the fact that the US military has designated Texas, Indiana and Oregon as three of its four target states in the 2008 version of its Noble Resolve military exercises. Granted, Chicago is in Illinois, not Indiana, but Indiana is quite close, and has been used to stage forces for terror exercises conducted in Chicago in recent years.

It may come as a surprise to people not acquainted with military preparations that the same cities remain on the list even though analysts like me have publicized them widely. There are considerable difficulties in setting up the political, police, military and media players necessary to support a false flag attack. While many in the 911 truth movement believes that national military forces can simply hit any city at any time, it's not so easy -- thank God. Fortunately, this means that those of us who study false flag prospects and focus on most likely targets; regrettably, this means that target cities can't breathe easy just because they have detected, exposed and preempted a single false flag attempt.

Here is a brief target analysis of the top three cities:

Primary Target: Houston. Over the past four years military and police veterans like me have been alerting the public to government exercises aiming at the nuclear destruction of Houston petro-suburbs. Five times in those four years we were able to predict to within a day major petrochemical explosions in those petro-suburbs. The odds against this kind of accuracy are astronomical. As the center of Big Oil and the Bush Family, Houston remains the most endangered city in America. Secondary Target: Chicago. While Houston is the most endangered city, the most endangered building -- the best candidate to be the next World Trade Center -- is the Sears Tower. Official sources have pronounced it just that ever since the original 9/11 attack, when they said it was on the Al Qaeda hit list. Larry Silverstein, who bought the Twin Towers two months before 9/11, led a group that purchased the Sears Tower on 3/11, 2004, the day of the Madrid bombings. Federal officials have been pointing to Chicago and its Sears Tower as Al Qaeda targets since the original 9/11 attacks, and have repeated the threat ever since. In May 2006,, the government scheduled secret 9/11-type exercises in Chicago, while Chicago Mayor Daley was docked conveniently away in Israel for his first visit there. Tertiary Target: Portland. The language in an official press release stated the case plainly enough: "Noble Resolve will coordinate with officials in Oregon to model a nuclear attack on Portland." I discovered that Stanford and Harvard had prepared a detailed nuclear fallout map for it, that national military commanders and state National Guard commanders were telling different stories about what the exercises were trying to accomplish, and that Portland's The Oregonian newspaper was doing everything it could to avoid investigating the frightening anomalies. I can't think of a more important question than the one of where the next 9/11 will be attempted. Common sense dictates to all of us who understand the truth about 9/11 that its perpetrators must strike again. Many of the vociferous voices impeding our understanding and anticipation are performing a vital service for treason. The federal government once used counterintelligence programs (COINTELPRO) against the Vietnam era antiwar and civil rights movement, and common sense would suggest that they are using it again in the post-9/11 era, this time against the antiwar and 911 truth movement. The most dangerous voices of all our those from false friends who have infiltrated us to confuse us until the traitors who carried out 9/11 can repeat their performance.

This is how I responded to a person talking about the importance of a "personal search" for the Divine as opposed to believing in the strict confines of "religion", on a forum in a thread about spirituality and religion. Some might benefit by it.

People who worship humans hide that worship from themselves as well.

Usually, they cloak it in pseudo-philosophical terminology to justify it.

If one doesn't worship a god or gods, one substitutes tangible things or humans in its place. Some indulge in self-worship, others worship another man or woman or idea; it's always there and the individual rushes to defend it.

I appreciate the apparently genuine attempts to "free" me from my "bondage" to a "religion" but it's always been hilarious to me.

Everyone has a personal search but because people are fatefully lazy, they'll create cognitive shortcuts and rely on pattern recognition to label and compartmentalize ideas and people.

Thus because the bible has contradictions all religion is false.

I KHANSTANTLY question my religion. EVERY SINGLE DAY. Anyone who advances spiritually does so because humans were endowed with intelligence and free will so we don't want to be "had" at another's expense, following difficult orders and suffering the loss of sensory pleasures advocated by the irreligious/unspiritual.

However, EVERY TIME, my questions have been answered simply, holistically and beautifully. As I understand Islam and can prove with scriptural evidence, I'm supposed to question and contemplate existence.

For instance, polygamy. Most westerners will point to this as an unfair and oppressive practice but Islam allows it with many pre-conditions. In addition it's known that arabs had tens and sometimes hundreds of wives and harems so, in that sense, it wasn't an allowance but rather a RESTRICTION, to 4 MAX. Then if you can't treat them all FAIRLY, equitably, and justly, YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED to have more than one. If you can't provide for all of them, you're not allowed.

But people will question the existence of such an institution, like WHY?

And why are men allowed but not women?

History and biology answers these clearly. Consider the difference in temperament. Is it logical to assume 4 men could live harmoniously with one woman? Pre-20th century how do you determine the father?

2ndly, wars usually deplete the male population far more than women and children. What do the widow mothers do? Ruin the lives of happily married couples by seducing the men? Will those men who have trysts with those widows take care of the widows children? the children they end up having?

Adorable attempts to create a conflict between a personal search for the Divine and a religion are diaphanous in their hollow emptiness. That's not to say a personal search should always result in adopting a religious tradition, but that such a result is neither rare, nor wrong, nor antithetical to the search.

The Road to Palestine
When the Impossible Happens

Short bursts of light flashed out in the night sky. Behind the shouts of the crowds and the insistent sirens, shots rang out. I couldn't tell where they were coming from, and to tell the truth, I couldn't care less. After all, I was only a few meters away from stepping into Gaza.

For a brief week, the road to Palestine was paved with dreams and dozens of parked relief trucks. I set out before dawn on January 25 from Cairo, driving through a fog as heavy and relentless as the Israeli siege on 1.5 million Palestinians
in Gaza.

The distance between Cairo to Gaza is approximately a 7-hour road trip, but for many Egyptians, it is a practically unthinkable journey.

The Furthest Point on the Planet

After the 1978 Camp David accords between Egypt and Israel, the streets of the city of Rafah were literally split in two by an arbitrary border. Families were separated, and Egyptians found that what used to be a holiday and shopping spot became a distant dream. Despite its geographical closeness, Palestine became politically the furthest point on the planet.

Camp David made a trip to neighboring Gaza an impossibility for Egyptians. As an Egyptian, it is easier for me to visit Denmark than Palestine.

According to the treaty, any Egyptian who wanted to enter Gaza could do so through Israel only, requiring a visa. On the other hand, Israelis could travel to Sinai for up to 15 days without needing any visa. The entire arrangement speaks volumes about Egypt's so-called sovereignty over the peninsula.

Palestine holds a special and almost magical place in the psyche of many Egyptians and Muslims. Egypt sacrificed tens of thousands of soldiers and endured several wars with Israel fighting against the occupation of Palestine, and later, the occupation of the Sinai peninsula.

The Qur'an mentions it as a land that is blessed by God, and to even see an inch of that land is an aspiration that most can not achieve.

Storming the Gates

On January 22, the impossible happened. Unable to concentrate on a report I was writing, I watched the news in awe as hundreds of Palestinian women broke through the border gate, opening the way for a mass exodus of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to escape the crippling Israeli siege on Gaza.

Soon almost 7 miles of the border were open, and the difference between families and neighbors were wiped out. Palestinians flooded into the Egyptian side of Rafah and into El-Arish to stock up on goods and return home to Gaza.

After hearing of Egyptians traveling into Gaza, two days later, my friends and I decided to travel to the edges of Palestine by car, following a relief convoy that was to leave the morning after we took our decision. We packed no clothes with us.

I have always talked about traveling to Palestine "one day", but I had never imagined that day would actually be realized. As soon as our travel arrangements had been made, I called a journalist friend in Gaza City to tell him that I was finally coming to Palestine.

In previous communications I had talked to him about how much I had wanted to visit Gaza, and he would repeatedly invite me, but we both knew that the day may never come. When I called him to tell him the good news, it took him several hours before my giddy announcement finally sunk in.

Although we had thought otherwise, we soon discovered that traveling with a relief agency is much more of a hassle than traveling alone. We were constantly stopping to make sure the trucks carrying the food, medicine, and other necessities were proceeding as planned.

Despite the heavy fog, in which visibility did not exceed one meter, we faced few problems until we reached the Mubarak Peace Bridge that connected mainland Egypt with Sinai. There we found hundreds of pickups, cars, and trucks, all carrying people and goods, many headed undoubtedly toward the Egyptian coastal city of El-Arish and Rafah.

Sunglasses and Potato Chips

We were not officially affiliated with any relief agency, and that fact made us uneasy. Although we were journalists, we were living in Egypt, and can never be sure how Egyptian security would react to our crossing into Sinai considering the chaos on the border.

Egyptians have a peculiar relationship with their undemocratic unelected government and its violent crackdown on dissenters, demonstrations, and anyone who poses any kind of opposition. Rules can be arbitrary and often the ordinary Egyptian citizen is under the mercy of unwritten laws of oppression.

We decided that our safest bet was to play on the fact that we were three women traveling alone. If asked, we would say that we were going to El-Arish, which is a popular holiday spot in Sinai.

To complete the image, we all made sure we had our sunglasses on, and brought out packets of potato chips, munching on them nonchalantly and laughing like schoolgirls as we neared the security police.

"What are we going to say?"

"We're going on holiday."

"With 3 sacks of rice, at least a dozen jars of honey, and the other stuff in the trunk?"

"Umm… Maybe they won't check the trunk."

"But what if they do?"

We couldn't think of any excuse we could give if asked about the food in the trunk of the car, as it didn't exactly fit our holidaymakers story. We decided to wing it.

No one stopped us and for the first time in my life, I crossed the Suez Canal and entered Sinai. We were now a little over 200 kilometers away from Rafah. After the exhilaration of crossing had died down, we soon had to stop, as the 11 relief trucks that were with us had been held up by Egyptian security police.

By that time, reports had been coming in that Egypt was closing the border and had given a 1300 GMT deadline for all Palestinians who had crossed into Egypt to return to Gaza. Accompanying relief workers were frantically calling their contacts and security officials in a bid to allow the relief trucks to cross the bridge and journey on to Rafah.

Panic that we might never make it set in, but we were determined not to give up. After traveling all this way, I was not about to turn around and go home.

As we waited, I counted no less than 35 Egyptian national security trucks passing by, carrying hundreds of security forces, headed towards the border.

After two hours, one of us glimpsed a police car heading toward where we and a couple of other cars carrying relief workers were parked. Unwilling to be questioned by the police about our presence in a relief convoy, my two friends and I rushed to the car and bolted.

This is when the three of us decided that we would go ahead with or without the relief. The chance to enter Palestine was one that we were not willing to sacrifice.

Gas Worries

Eventually, the other relief workers caught up with us, as we all had to refill our gas tanks, knowing that gas was more and more scarce as we neared El-Arish and Rafah. We were warned that there was no fuel to be bought anywhere near those two cities, so we decided to stop at the first gas station we saw.

After filling our tanks, we asked about the possibility of buying extra gas just in case we ran out. We were heading into unknown territory and an unpredictable situation. Unfortunately, there were no available containers to hold any extra gas we might have bought, so we went on without, hoping we wouldn't need any.

We were stopped several times at police checkpoints. Every time we put on our sunglasses, chattered nonsense, and munched on our chips. Every time we passed with no hassles.

When we first entered El-Arish, nothing seemed amiss. However, the further in we moved, the scene quickly became utter chaos. Dozens of pickup trucks were flooding into the city, filled with Palestinians in the back. Cars and taxis were carrying entire families either into or out of El-Arish.

Suddenly, instead of being home with our families watching the news of what was happening, we found ourselves smack in the middle of events.

Reaching Rafah

We had already contacted friends inside Palestine, and they had assured us that as soon as we reached Rafah, they would come to pick us up. By that time, we had entered Rafah and soon found that many of the streets had been blocked by Egyptian security forces.

Eventually we reached the furthest point we could and, not knowing at the time that I was making a mistake, I parked my car.

After what seemed to me forever in my impatience to get inside Palestine, our Palestinian friends found us, and each of us carried a box or bundle of goods we had brought with us and headed toward the border by foot.

They brought with them a young boy who like many others, had seized the opportunity presented by the chaotic situation and employed himself as a package carrier, using a push cart to carry heavy goods to the border wall.

Over the Wall, Into the Dream

The couple of kilometers we trekked towards the border were the most crowded and chaotic in the entire trip. Thousands of Palestinians were either heading back to Gaza or into Egypt. There was a power outage and the night was pitch black. The only light came from street side vendors selling odds and ends.

Men herded sheep, goats, and cows toward the border, while others carried sacks of food on their backs. Mattresses, soft-drinks, biscuits, and other goods were carried by hand, by push carts, or by donkey carts. A black market currency exchange business thrived as hawkers called out rates and currencies.

As we neared the border, the anarchy became complete. Sirens wailing, ambulances carrying injured Palestinians tried in vain to part the crowds. Soon, I saw flashes of light, and probably for the first time in my life, heard gunshots in a potentially dangerous context.

"What was that?" I asked Ahmed, one of the Palestinians with us.

Utterly unconcerned, Ahmed said, "Probably the Egyptian security forces." They had been firing in the air, and according to Ahmed, sometimes they had fired at the Palestinians, trying to scare them back across the border.

No one else seemed aware of the gunshots, as we were all focused on not losing each other in the crowd. We pressed on and soon found ourselves at the border wall. In the dark, we could make out cranes carrying barrels of fuel across the wall.

From what I had seen in the news, I had imagined that the entire border wall was leveled to the ground, and that we would simply walk over it. Seeing a wall that was higher than me was not something I was expecting.

"We're going to have to jump the wall." Ahmed told us. "Usually we just jump it, but because you girls are with us, we'll find someone with a ladder."

At the wall, we found another thriving business. A boy held a wooden ladder to the wall, charging one Israeli shekel per person for the use of the ladder. We climbed over and jumped down to the ground on the other side.

We were inside Palestine. The impossible had come true.

Under the Olive Trees

The heart of the Palestinian dream beats in shadows under the olive trees. Its scent lies under patient boots standing on a satin soft ground that is saturated with the perfume of an unfaltering belief in freedom.

The eyes that watch from the shadows, beneath the olive branches, have seen a heaven we have only known in words.

The commander of the area, who was to be our guide that night, drove us through unlit streets, talking to us and all the while communicating through a walkie-talkie with his men. After a short 15 minute drive, we reached our destination.

We trudged single file through dark and winding paths bordered by a dense growth of prickly pear cactus. Although we had come almost directly from the border wall, the exhausting trip from Cairo into Palestine was quickly forgotten.

Like Millions, Like Very Few

The night was still except for the sound of our shoes. The only light came from a scattering of distant stars.

We were going to visit the men who spend their nights on the borders between Gaza and Israel, watching and waiting. These are men who know that they are fighting an army with immense technological, material, and financial advantages.

They stand in the cold, in the rain, during storms, and under fire. When Israel strikes, they are the first to die.

These men, mainly in their 20s and 30s, spend most of their time away from their families and loved ones. Their commander, we were told, sees his wife for a maximum of one hour daily.

Every night, they pick up their weapons and merge into the shadows, resuming a 60-year struggle for freedom.

Like millions of others, they have a dream that one day they will be free, that one day, the land of their grandfathers and ancestors will return for their children and grandchildren to run and play in. They dream that the now bulldozed fields of olive trees will one day be replanted with hope and peace.

Like very few, they know and have come to terms with the fact that they will be killed in pursuit of this dream. To them, their own death is a certainty, the only unknown is when.

Lightening-Quick Eternity

We finally reached the front line, or at least the most advanced position we could safely be taken to. The ground was soft beneath our feet and the air was crisp.

In the faint light of the stars, I could make out the bulky shape of a fighter standing quietly underneath an olive tree. His face was covered, and I could only see his eyes.

He turned to us in greeting, and seeing us crowding near his chosen position, politely stepped back to allow us room to move freely in.

At a modest distance, we could see the wire fence separating Gaza from Israel. Red lights blinked near the fence.

I could scarcely breathe. It was approximately 10 pm and I had only been in Palestine for a little over 3 hours. I felt like I was standing at the edge of the world, between the pages of history.

The moment was a lightening-quick glimpse of eternity. My friends and I fell to the ground in prostration. I touched my forehead to a softness I had never known before. The fighters surrounding us sensed the private emotions that had engulfed us and gently, without a word, turned aside and talked quietly amongst themselves.

This blessed land that had welcomed into its depths thousands of its children killed by the rhetoric of politicians and the arms of an unyielding occupation welcomed my own simple homage.

The touch of its hospitable smoothness echoed the generosity of its people, and their eagerness to make sure our trip to Palestine was one we would never forget.

I inhaled deeply the fresh yet ancient scent of a beloved land. Never before had the earth smelled so pure. I thought of the blood that had been spilt on this soil in the Palestinian fight for freedom. Is this what dignity smelled like?

Posing With RPGs

I could have stayed forever with my face to the ground underneath the olive tree, but realizing we couldn't occupy such a strategic position for too long, we got up.

It was time to move on.

We trekked back through winding paths and the cacti until we reached paved streets and hit the jackpot.

At a t-section in the street, we met at least 10 fighters, all with their faces covered. They greeted us cheerily and seemed eager to show off their arsenal.

"This is one of the mines we use," said one, showing us a black, ominous looking contraption about the size of a woman's small purse. "Do you girls want to try lifting it?"

Ever eager to take on a challenge, I stepped forward. Truth be told, I did manage to lift the mine, but only just a few centimeters off the ground.

The watching fighters smiled. "I don't think you should try lifting the one we use for tanks," one of them said, pointing to a much bigger contraption. "It weighs around 50 kilograms." I agreed.

We asked them if we could take pictures of them. They agreed, but would only allow us to photograph them with their faces covered.

For a few minutes, they put aside their duties and humored us. They stood in the darkness and posed with their RPGs (rocket-propelled grenade launchers) and Kalashnikovs.

The commander, whose name we were not told, waited patiently while we took as many pictures as we wanted, then told us we had to move.

We climbed into a four-door pickup truck. The small sedan we had arrived in was nowhere to be seen. The fighters said goodbye to us and stood watching as their commander started up the truck and drove off.

It was a long night. I had been awake since 4 am that day, and it was nearly midnight. Although I am known to my friends as someone who "sleeps with the chickens" because of my early to bed, early to rise habits, I couldn't have been more awake.

As we drove off, I looked back at the men we had left behind. One of them waved to us.

At the end of the day, we were journalists who had entered Palestine and would be leaving it to go back to our comfortable homes and warm beds.

At the end of the day, they were young men who had willingly devoted their lives and forsaken any possible comfort for one cause alone: freedom for their people and their land.

We would spend that first night in Palestine in the warm house of friends.

They would spend that night as they spend all their nights: waiting and watching in the cold under the olive trees.

Friday Sermon: Importance of Prayer - 2/22

Huzur continued with the subject of Salat in his Friday Sermon today. He cited verse 19 of Surah Al Fatir (35:19), the translation reads:

‘And no burdened soul can bear the burden of another; and if a heavily laden soul call another to bear its load, naught of it shall be carried by the other, even though he be a kinsman. Thou canst warn only those who fear their Lord in secret and observe Prayer, And whoso purifies himself, purifies himself only to his own advantage; and to Allah shall be the return.’

Huzur said the commandment for Salat is fundamental and without it religion cannot be fulfilled. Indeed in the very beginning of the Holy Qur’an after faith in the ‘Unseen’ it is observance of Salat that is mentioned. In fact even before that in Surah Al Fatiha we pray to Allah saying: ‘You alone do we worship’.

Huzur said today he would further elucidate the merits of Salat in light of the Holy Qur’an, Hadith and the writings of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace).

Huzur said he had thought of giving a discourse on another subject today but upon reflection and in light of reports from the Tarbiyyat secretary of UK and Sadr Lajna USA he felt it necessary to speak further on the subject of Salat. Huzur said just because he had mentioned UK and USA other countries should not consider that they have achieved the requisite standard of Salat, in fact the high standard of Salat that would bring satisfaction cannot been seen anywhere. Some office-holders express optimism with regard to observance of Salat whereas no undue optimism should be expressed in context of Salat unless every single Ahmadi is 100% firm on the requisites of Salat.

Huzur said while we are in a thankful frame of mind in terms of the Khilafat Centenary we should be most mindful of the key principle of belief (i.e. Salat) because Khilafat is only promised to those who have belief.

Commentating on the Quranic verse recited at the beginning Huzur said it draws the attention of those who fear their Lord in secret to stay alert with regards observance of Salat and try and keep the ‘self’ pure, they should never entertain the thought that indolence about Salat is acceptable. Huzur said all this is to make weak individuals like us heedful of the Hereafter and the fact that we all have to return to Allah – this would make us think about keeping the self pure and indeed the best way to keep the self pure is through observance of Salat.

Explaining the concept of ‘fear of God’ Huzur said it is like the fear of losing a dear one through making them unhappy. Such a feeling for Allah would encourage our love for Him and we will be that much more heedful not to incur His displeasure and we will be drawn towards observance of Salat. Otherwise, bai’at on its own is not a source of salvation.

The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) said that among the deeds of people the first accountability will be of Salat. Allah will ask His angels to see if His servant accomplished the Salat or left it incomplete. If the person has made any nafl (optional) worship it will be used to make up any deficiency in the fardh (obligatory) worship. Huzur said in light of this how critical it is for us to make arrangements for our Salat.

It is indeed a tremendous favour of Allah on the Ahmadis that having accepted the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) we are now a Community which is strung together in a manner of a string of pearls, we have an appreciation of rising and sitting down at the gesture of a hand, then how much more mindful should we be about something that generates discipline the most and something that will be of great avail to us even in the Hereafter?

Huzur read an extract of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) to signify the importance of Salat. The translation of this extract can be read on pages 308 -309 of Essence of Islam Vol. II.

Citing verses 23-24 of Surah Al Ma’arij (70:23) Huzur explained true believers are regular in their Salat and worldly matters are not a hindrance in their observance of Salat, these are the people who have high morals and this indeed is a sign of a true worshipper of God. Huzur said there are some who say their Salat regularly but their surroundings are not safe from them; indeed one should observe Salat with the intention to seek the pleasure of Allah. Huzur said it is a great blessing of Allah that we in the Community of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) have understood the true message of Islam as brought by the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him), As for those who say their Salat with different intentions the Qur’an states in verses 5-7 of Surah Al Ma’un (107:5), the translation reads:

‘So woe to those who pray, But are unmindful of their Prayer. Those who show off.’

Huzur said certainly the Companions of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) were not like this, therein is a warning for people to come. The Qur’an also states in Surah Al Nisa verse 143 (4:143) that those who seek to deceive Allah, He causes them to deceive themselves.

Huzur said we are fortunate that we are included in the ‘latter-ones’ who have been likened to the earlier ones. This tremendous blessing comes with a huge responsibility never to let observance of Salat slip, never to be deficient in fulfilling the rights of Allah and indeed the rights of His people. His favour in granting us guidance is immense and requires us to be extremely grateful and to turn to Him with absolute sincerity. Huzur said it is a matter of utmost gravity that not a single person among us should have the indolence that takes one away from faith and away from God.

Huzur read another extract from the noble writings of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) about the merits of Salat. The translation of this extract can be read on pages 295-297 of Essence of Islam Vol II.

Huzur cited verses 2 & 3 of Surah al Mumi’nun (23:2) and said that the thing to remember is the Salat is the first rung of success for a true believer in every sense. This is conditional to the fact that Salat is offered with complete sincerity only for Allah, to seek His nearness as well as His blessings and pleasure, which indeed is the true objective of the existence of man. Huzur also cited verse 133 of Surah Ta Ha (20:133).

Huzur read further extracts from the august writings of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) elucidating the merits and significance of Salat in a most eloquent manner.

In conclusion Huzur said these are the high standards of Salat that we do not simply have to attain and be regular at, rather every fibre of our being and our very soul should turn to Allah and prostrate to Him and our hearts should make entreaties that take us close to Allah, that bring about a revolutionary change that reflects the pleasure of the One God. May Allah make us experience all this.

I always used to wonder what it was about Jews that made people throughout history despise them. If they were indeed "God's chosen" I thought, they had to be the unluckiest people in the history of the world.

Why were they persecuted throughout history?

Why had the Nazis herded them into cattle cars and taken them to "extermination camps" to dispose once and for all of the "Jewish problem?"

I suddenly recognized that if Hitler had developed a "Final Solution" to the Jewish question, that there had to have been a "Jewish Problem." Could the Jews have in any way behaved in such a manner that would make the countries in which they resided turn against them, or were they just unfortunate, innocent victims?

I set out to find answers for my questions, mainly turning to the Internet, but also reading various books on the subject. What I found became increasingly disturbing to me.

I had not known that throughout history, the Jews had been expelled from 79 countries, some countries more than once.

I had not known that many of the claims they made about the Holocaust that I had believed unquestioningly for so long were in fact fraudulent.

The books I had read and the movies I had seen about the "Holocaust" and wept over were nothing but thinly veiled attempts to garner unwavering sympathy for the state of Israel and an excuse to extort billions of dollars from Germany and 1.25 billion dollars from the Swiss banks.

I discovered that a book I had read many times as a teenager and cried about, Anne Frank's Diary, had been at least partially written by someone other than Anne Frank.

I learned that the confessions at the Nuremburg Trials and the executions of so many German "war criminals" were were extracted under torture and the defendants were being tried, judged and condemned by their very accusers.

I learned about the "false flag" operations, especially the Lavon affair and the tragedy of the USS Liberty, an American ship that was attacked by the Israelis during the 1967 war. 34 young American men were killed and many more wounded.

To add insult to injury, the Israelis claimed that it was simply an unfortunate case of mistaken identity, something the survivors of the Liberty have always vehemently denied. They, however, were threatened with court martial if they were ever to tell their stories.

I learned about the Jonathan Pollard spy case and other incidents of Israeli Jews spying against their supposed "closest ally."

I became shocked and horrified as I learned about the treatment of the Palestinian people in the occupied territories at the hands of the Israeli Defense Forces and the Jewish settlers. Israel purports to be the only democracy in the middle east, but it's only a democracy for Jews. Non-Jews are not considered equal.

I was saddened to see pictures of innocent Palestinian children burned beyond recognition or suffering from serious gunshot wounds after being targeted by the IDF for no other reason than that they are Palestinian.

I found out about the Jewish history of avariciousness, larceny, lying, manipulation and their questionable and usurious business practices.

I learned about their roles in the radical homosexual movement, the radical feminist movement, the pornography industry as well as their over-representation in the abortion industry.

I discovered their role in organized crime, in the slave trade, in the civil rights movement and in Communism, an ideology that is responsible for the deaths of untold millions and the repression of many millions more.

I learned that it was Jewish supremacists behind the war against Christianity and Christmas. It is they who want God out of the Pledge of Allegiance and all symbols of Christianity removed from public life.

They have driven Christianity from the public schools despite Christianity being the majority religion.

They have taken Christmas out of the public school calendar despite the fact that it is a statutory holiday and it is named Christmas.

I read about the anti-Gentilism and hatefulness of the Babylonian Talmud and their utter disrespect for, and hostility towards Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary and Christianity and Christians in general.

I learned about their "chutzpah" in claiming that Gentile lives were worth no more than the lives of barnyard animals but that they considered Jewish lives to be akin to God Himself. It's okay to steal from a Gentile or to kill a Gentile, but Jewish lives are sacred.

I learned of their control of the majority of wealth, the media and academia despite them making up less than 2% of the population (even lower in Canada).

They are behind the ridiculous political correctness movement and hate crime legislation that was drafted so as to silence anyone who might figure out their agenda and attempt to shed light on it.

Men like German Rudolf, David Irving and many more, previously recognized as great historians, were arrested, charged with hate crimes and incarcerated simply for having made academic inquiry into a specific period of history.

Other so called "revisionists" or "holocaust deniers" have been intimidated, harassed, assaulted and smeared simply for trying to get at the truth.

I found out that the Jews are responsible for our wide open immigration policies that have created the nightmare we call "multiculturalism," "diversity," inclusiveness" and "pluralism."

It is mostly they who push for race mixing and miscegenation, knowing full well that it would eventually lead to those of white European descent being minorities in their own countries and the eventual extermination of white European DNA.

It is patently clear that the war in Iraq is due solely to Israel wanting to hobble her enemies by destabilizing their governments in order to achieve hegemony in the middle east.

It would be unthinkable for Israeli Jews to die for this cause, so they manipulated the US into the war with the help of the Jewish Zionist "Israel firsters" in the Bush administration in order that the blood of way too many young American men and women is shed instead.

What I have trouble understanding is why they continue this behavior in whichever society they live, knowing that eventually they will overplay their hand and their perfidy will be exposed yet again.Has history taught them nothing?

As more and more people become aware of what is going on and who is responsible for it, anger is going to rise as it already has in the former Soviet Union and eastern European countries.

They may control television, movies and the print media, but they don't control the internet. At least not yet. Blogs and websites devoted to "outing" the Jewish supremacists will ultimately be their downfall.

If everyone who sees this information passes it on to at least one other person, the crimes and misdeeds of the Jewish supremacists and Zionists will be exposed and they will have nowhere to run or hide (except Israel).

Central bankers and finance ministers from
the world’s top-10 economic powers huddled behind closed doors in Tokyo last weekend, trying
to work out a joint strategy to rescue the global stock markets from another
possible meltdown. Roughly $6-trillion was lost on global stock markets in the
month of January, triggered by the biggest financial crisis since the Great
Depression, and a US housing
slide, that could topple the giant US economy into recession.

Central bankers from the United States, Japan,
Germany, France, Canada,
Britain, Italy, China,
South Korea, and Russia,
collectively control the money spigots in three-quarters of the world’s $65
trillion economy. “We are not yet at the end of the market crisis,” warned Euro-group
finance chief Jean-Claude Juncker. “The corrections will drag on for a few
weeks, or months. We have agreed in Tokyo
that if there are irrational price movements in the markets, we will
collectively take suitable measures to calm the financial markets,” he said.

Asked what type of collective action the
G-7 might take during another stock market meltdown, Juncker said, “Whoever has
a strategy should not lay it out. Otherwise it will lose its effect, if it is
explained.” Russian Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin hinted at a coordinated
round of G-7 rate cuts. “Coordination of efforts between central banks on their
refinancing rates may soften the consequences of the global credit crisis, because
this is the key factor supporting financial systems,” he explained.

Other weapons in the G-7’s arsenal to counter a bear market for equities include
brainwashing investors through the media, fudging economic and inflation data, inflating
the money supply, managing the “yen carry” trade, and outright intervention in
stock index futures, championed by the US “Plunge Protection Team.”

After surveying the global landscape, the
G-7 warned, “Downside risks still persist, including further deterioration of
the US
residential housing markets and tighter credit conditions.” Bank of Italy chief
Mario Draghi added, “Risks are further shocks may lead to a prolonged
recurrence of the acute liquidity pressures experienced last year. We face a
prolonged adjustment, which could be difficult,” he warned.

Banks and brokerage firms around the world
face $400 billion in write-offs of toxic sub-prime US mortgages, said German Finance
Minister Peer Steinbrueck on Feb 11^th. “The crisis that spread
from the US
property market to global financial markets may continue well into 2008,” he
warned. The US
credit crisis is no longer just a sub-prime mortgage problem. Many prime loans made in recent years also allowed borrowers to pay less
initially, but with higher adjustable payments in later years.

With US home prices falling and lenders
clamping down, homeowners with solid credit are also under the same financial
stress as those with sub-prime credit. Over 40% of all mortgages issued
from late 2005 to early 2007 are based on adjustable rates, so about $45
billion would reset each month this year. The expected tax rebates from Washington
will cover less than two months of home payments.

Wall Street fueled the growth of sub-prime
lending by packaging $1.8 trillion of risky home loans into bundled securities,
and then marketing them as high-grade investments. But with US mortgage
foreclosures set to top 1 million this year and home prices falling at the
fastest pace since the Great Depression, the same Wall Street investment banks
who profited by putting buyers into properties they couldn’t afford, are begging
central banks and governments to manage the bust.

In Chicago,
futures contracts for the Case-Shiller Home Price Index in the 20-biggest US cities are
9.4% lower from a year ago, and the slide might get worse as $550 billion of sub-prime adjustable rate mortgages
adjust upwards this year. The Fed’s rate cutting spree
since September, slashing the fed funds rate by 2.25%, might help by reducing
the reset rate for many adjustable-rate loans.

But US consumers are hobbled by falling
stock prices, tighter credit conditions, high gasoline prices, and a soft labor
market. Sliding home values are also
eroding the equity US households can tap for cash at the same time banks are
tightening credit, threatening the consumer spending that the economy needs to
dodge recession. “Going forward, we will continue to watch developments closely
and take appropriate actions, individually and collectively, in order to secure
stability and growth in our economies,” the G-7 said after their secret
meeting.

The big threat to US household spending is primarily
focused on the slumping housing market, but a double-barreled assault can be
disastrous, so if the US stock markets keeps sliding, it would probably tip the
economy into recession. And a US
recession could undermine the global economy, like tumbling dominoes, since the
US
consumer buys about 20% of the world’s $14.5 trillion of exports.

The Federal Reserve has been the most
hyper-active G-10 central bank in pumping liquidity into the global markets,
slashing the fed funds rate to a negative 1%, in inflation adjusted terms. The
Fed “will be carefully evaluating incoming information bearing on the economic
outlook and will act in a timely manner as needed to support growth and to
provide adequate insurance against downside risks,” Fed chief Ben “B-52” Bernanke
told the Senate Banking Committee on Feb 14^th.

The G-10 central banks will tolerate an upward creep in global inflation,
because the pain required to kick the money printing habit is deemed too high. “Downside risks to
the US
economy are the most important factor for Federal Reserve interest rate policy
for the time being,” said Chicago Fed chief Charles Evans on Feb 14^th.
“The Fed’s focus needs to be on those risks, even though inflation has been
running a bit higher than we would like,” he said.

G-10 central bankers are ignoring the deleterious
side-effects of their super-easy money policies. The Fed and G-7 central
bankers have injected hundreds of billions of dollars into the global money
markets, fueling the “Commodity Super Cycle,” and intensifying global
inflation. Central bankers in Canada
and the UK
have joined the Fed’s rate cutting spree. But the big surprise for G-7 central
bankers might be how high commodities can fly, even in the face of a global
economic slowdown.

Since the Fed began lowering rates in
August, the Dow Jones AIG Commodity Index has jumped +22% to a record high of 200-points,
while the MSCI All World Index, measuring the top-43 stock markets, has tumbled
7-percent. Commodities have historically been regarded as wildly volatile and
risky, but since 2006, crude oil, gold, copper, silver, platinum, cocoa, and
grains have soared, hitting record highs, and have trounced returns in the mis-managed
G-7 stock markets.

A remarkable run-up in prices of wheat,
corn, oilseeds, rice, and dairy products, along with sharply higher energy
prices, have been blamed on supply shortfalls, strong demand for bio-fuels, and
an inflow of $150 billion from investment funds. From a year ago, Chicago wheat futures have
soared +120%, corn +20%, and soybeans are +80% higher. Rough rice is up 55%, and
platinum touched $2,000 /oz, up 80% from a year ago, while US cocoa futures hit
a 24-year high.

In agricultural commodities, there are supply
constraints in terms of the amount of arable land available. There are huge
shifts in demand from the emerging economies, where populations are moving to
cities, and incomes are rising, and changing dietary patterns. Entering energy
into the food equation, the surging ethanol industry has put a squeeze on the
corn market, causing prices to be demand driven. Bio-diesel traders are looking
at soybean and vegetable oils.

Fund managers are pouring money into
commodities across the board as a hedge against the explosive growth of the world’s
money supply, and competitive currency devaluations engineered by central banks.
Wheat had climbed nearly 10% since the beginning of the year, hitting an all-time
high of $11.50 /bushel, as investment funds kept buying futures with US wheat
supplies at the lowest level in 60-years.

Because
most global commodities are traded in US dollars, the Federal Reserve has a
special role to play in defending the value of the US dollar in the foreign
exchange markets. On Dec 27^th, Hu Xiaolian, director of China’s
Foreign Exchange wrote, “If the US federal funds rate continues to fall, this
will certainly have a harmful effect on the US dollar exchange rate and the international
currency system,” Hu wrote.

Central banks are flooding
the markets with paper, and nobody takes the dollar, the Euro, the yen, or the
pound seriously. Investors are turning to gold because it is the only true
store of value. The Arab oil kingdoms and Asian exporting nations are importing
inflation through their currency pegs and dirty floats, but their patience with
the US dollar is near the snapping point.

OPEC may abandon the US dollar for pricing
oil and adopt the Euro, said OPEC Secretary-General Abdullah al-Badri on Feb 8^th.
“Maybe we can price the oil in the Euro. It can be done, but it will take time.
It took two world wars and more than 50 years for the dollar to become the
dominant currency. Now we are seeing another strong currency coming into the
frame, which is the Euro,” said Badri.

The
US Treasury and the Fed are risking a disastrous
replay of the 1970’s, when high oil prices fueled double-digit inflation. Every
time the Fed lowered rates to boost job growth, inflation took off, causing a
vicious price spiral. The Fed let inflation rage for so long that it took a
strict monetarist approach, adopted by Paul Volcker in 1979 to finally defeat
inflation. However, the cost of subduing the inflation monster was a deep
recession, with unemployment hitting 11% in 1982.

Excessive monetary accommodation just takes the
economy from bubble to bubble to bubble. This time around, the Fed’s devaluation of
the dollar, based upon Mr Greenspan’s 2001-02 blueprints, has unleashed the
biggest wave of commodity inflation seen since the 1970’s.

Bank of England follows in Fed’s Footsteps

With 1.5 million adjustable rate mortgages
due to reset in the UK
this year, the Bank of England has joined the Fed’s money printing orgy. On Feb
7^th, the BoE lowered its key lending rate by a quarter-point to
5.25%, following a similar cut in December. Pressure has increased on the BoE’s
Monetary Policy Committee to slash borrowing costs, even as soaring energy and
food bills are driving inflation higher.

Britain’s factories are facing the
strongest input price pressures on record and are ramping up prices to
compensate, but that didn’t stop the Bank of England from lowering its base
rate to 5.25% last week, to shore up the Footsie-100 stock index. And there is
little sign that UK
price pressures are set to ease with the cost of raw materials surging 18.9%
from a year earlier, the fastest rate in 22-years.

UK producer prices are surging at an annualized 5.7% rate
in January, a 16-year high, not surprising, given the bullish trends in the
global commodity markets. The price of
imported food into the United
Kingdom rose by nearly 15% in the past
12-months. But the bigger fear haunting the BoE is that weaker
growth will undermine housing and stock prices, putting further pressure on
bank balance sheets, and prompting a further tightening in credit conditions.

On Feb 13^th,
the BoE projected an economic slowdown to zero percent in the first two
quarters of 2008, with a high probability that the UK economy will contract in at
least one quarter. BoE chief Mervyn King’s message was blunt. “Tighter credit
conditions will bear down on demand, while rising energy, food and import
prices will push up on inflation. Both developments are now more acute than in
November,” he warned.

Mr. King says the
BoE is powerless to counter surging commodity prices, which he believes “will
result in a genuine reduction in our standard of living. However, there is no
point in us going mad and pretending it is sensible to double interest rates in
order to bring inflation back to target in the next six months,” he argued.
Instead, King thinks that slower growth over the coming year will “reduce
pressures on capacity” and bring inflation down to target towards the beginning
of 2009.

“The Bank of England needs to stop worrying
about inflation and cut interest rates to prevent a sharp slowdown in growth,”
said BoE policymaker David Blanchflower on January 27^th. “It’s
essential that the BoE get ahead of the curve, as the current level of UK interest
rates are restrictive. Evidence from the housing and the commercial property
market is worrying. It is time for the MPC to lead not follow. Worrying about inflation at this time seems
like fiddling when Rome
burns,” he declared

Herein is the
crux of the “Stagflation” trap. Lowering interest rates to bolster the local
economy can backfire by igniting faster inflation, and erode the purchasing
power of local citizens. But the BoE has been destroying the purchasing power
of UK
citizens for years, by inflating the British M4 money supply, up 12.4% from a
year ago. Gold has risen by 110% against the British pound from four years ago,
and is a proven vehicle for protecting asset wealth from abusive central
bankers.

To ease the plight of its exporters, the BoE engineered a 10% devaluation
of the British pound, from a 26-year high against the dollar in
November. Britain’s goods trade deficit with the rest of the world ballooned to a record
at 87.4 billion pounds ($170.4 billion) last year, up 10% from 2006. The
UK’s
current-account deficit widened to 5.7%
of gross domestic product, the highest of G-7 nations. But a weaker pound also exacerbates Britain’s
inflation problem, by lifting import prices.

“The BoE needs
to balance the risk that a sharp slowing in activity pulls inflation below
target against the risk expectations keep inflation above target,” the BoE
said. Given the choice of defending the purchasing power of the British pound
or rescuing the housing and stock market, the BoE will eventually show its weak
hand, and lower its interest rates further, spinning its citizens on the
treadmill of inflation

Florida State Officials Under Fire Over Anti-Muslim Film, Promoting Christianity

On the heels of an appearance at the United States Air Force Academy where three self-proclaimed "ex-terrorists" spoke to cadets about how converting to Christianity is the only way to combat the evils of the Islamic faith, Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum agreed to establish a Muslim community advisory group late last week after he came under fire for directing state officials to watch "Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West," a controversial film featuring one of the alleged ex-terrorists promoting fundamentalist Christianity and others vilifying Muslims as terrorists.

In January, McCollum's office said the attorney general sent an email to about 500 state employees last month urging them to attend a screening of the film "Obsession" in order to better understand ""the terrorist threat to Florida and the West by radical Islam." The film was produced and financed by HonestReporting, a media watchdog group based in New York and Jerusalem that says its mission is to "defend Israel from prejudice."

The Muslim Public Affairs Council in Los Angeles and the Council of American Islamic Relations said "Obsession" is an "anti-Muslim propaganda film."

"We are gravely alarmed that a respectable, high-level official such as yourself would be promoting such inflammatory anti-Muslim propaganda through your office, " MPAC executive director Salam Al Marayati wrote to in a January 23 letter to McCollom." The office that hate crime victims turn to for legal aid and justice is itself igniting the fire of bias and fear through such events."

Jack Shaheen, an Oxford University research scholar and author of four books on racism, stereotyping and propaganda, told the St. Petersburg Times in an interview February 12 that the film was "very convincing."

"Goebbels would be proud. This film has a place in cinema history with the racist film Birth of a Nation and the Nazi film Triumph of the Will because it so cleverly advances lies to vilify a people," Shaheen said.

Daniel Pipes, the director of Middle East Forum, is interviewed in the film saying, "Islamists hate everything other than what they are themselves." In 2001, Pipes claimed the "presence" and "enfranchisement" of American Muslims present "true dangers to American Jews." Pipes once wrote on his website: "Yes, I do support the internment of Japanese Americans in World War II."

The film contains also features Walid Shoebat, who says he is a former terrorist and was once affiliated with the Palestine Liberation Organization.

Two weeks ago, Shoebat, and two of his colleagues who also claim they are former terrorists and are responsible for the murders of at least 223 Arabs, were invited to speak to cadets at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs about radical Islam. However, their discussion centered on fundamentalist Christianity and how turning oneself over to Jesus Christ is crucial to winning the war on terror.

Last September, Shoebat told the Missouri Springfield News-Leader that he sees "many parallels between the Antichrist and Islam" and "Islam is not the religion of God -- Islam is the devil."

Mikey Weinstein, a graduate of the US Air Force Academy and the founder and president of the watchdog group The Military Religious Freedom Foundation, said the academy invited the alleged ex-terrorists to speak to cadets and staff in hopes of converting the "unchurched" to fundamentalist Christianity. Weinstein said the invitation extended to the alleged ex-terrorists by the Dean of the academy is just another example of the school's long documented history of using "unconstitutional, propaganda, fear, and military command influence to promote fundamentalist Christianity to its cadets and staff."

"In the four years that our Military Religious Freedom Foundation has been fighting this invasion of fundamentalist Christianity in the US military absolutely nothing has been as surreal as this event," Weinstein said in an interview a day before the ex-terrorists' appearance. "The US Air Force Academy has either invited Osama Bin Laden and his buddies or Las Vegas Elvis impersonators to come to speak. No matter which category this falls into to this represents a scandalous outrage that is off the scale of repugnancy and duplicity. These three frauds are as much Islamic terrorists as Arnold Schwarzenegger is a real Terminator. Our foundation will immediately include this entire sordid matter as part of our federal lawsuit against the Pentagon currently being litigated in Kansas City."

Shoebat claims he volunteered for the PLO as an adolescent. At 16, Shoebat said the PLO ordered him to bomb a Jewish-owned bank in Bethlehem with a device he smuggled from Jerusalem inside a loaf of bread. He was supposed to plant it near the bank’s door, but Palestinian children played nearby. He decided to throw it onto the roof of a nearby building instead, where it exploded without harming anyone, he said.

Later that year during a riot in Bethlehem, Shoebat led youths in an attempt to lynch an Israeli solider. Shoebat and a friend beat the solider bloody with clubs before other Israeli soldiers arrived.

He claims he was imprisoned in the Russian Compound, Jerusalem's central prison for incitement and violence against Israel. Officials at the Israeli consulate said they did not have immediate comment on Shoebat's claims. Shoebat says he discovered Christianity when he was 18-years-old when he arrived in the US.

The outcry from the Muslim community over the screening of "Obsession" led to a hastily arranged community meeting last week in Tallahassee, Florida with state and national Islamic leaders and McCollom and members of his staff.

During the meeting with representatives of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), the ACLU of Florida, and the Florida Muslim Bar Association, McCollum also agreed to offer educational programs on Islam and Muslims to his staff and to help build better relations between the Muslim community and law enforcement agencies.

"The challenge for all state and federal law enforcement agencies is to treat Muslim Americans as partners in keeping our country safe," said MPAC Executive Director Salam al-Marayati, who attended the meeting last week. "Reliance on propagandistic films like "Obsession" is an obstacle to that objective."

Rabbi Steven Jacobs, who also attended the meeting with McCollom, said, "we ought to be obsessed with the truth, not distortions that lead to demonization and hatred of any group."

Separately, while the Muslim community met with McCollom and his staff, Brigitte Gabriel, a Lebanese Christian, was in Palm Beach County speaking to the Women's division of the Jewish Federation sounding the same alarm bells about the Islamic faith and Muslims in general that Shoebat has been raising during his time on the lecture circuit. Gabriel was a guest speaker for an event sponsored by Shoebat's foundation.

Gabriel is the founder of American Congress for Truth (ACT), an organization that says it is dedicated to motivating Americans to take action against terrorism. Her biography on the website for ACT says she worked in the Middle East as news anchor for “World News” an evening Arabic news broadcast and covered the Israeli security zone in Lebanon and the Palestinian uprising in the West Bank. She immigrated to the United States in 1989 and started a television production and advertising company.

Her website contains a recommended reading list which includes the book "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam" underscoring what appears to be her deep disdain for the Islamic faith.

In June 2007, Gabriel was invited to speak to the Joint Forces Staff College (JFSC) as part of the school's Islam elective studies program. According to its website, the JFSC "educates military officers and other national security leaders in joint, multinational, and interagency operational-level planning and war fighting, to instill a primary commitment to joint, multinational, and interagency teamwork, attitudes, and perspectives."

Her appearance at the prestigious military college was carried by C-Span. Her lecture was controversial to say the least. International, allied officers were not permitted to participate in Gabriel's lecture.

During a question and answer session, Gabriel said that Muslims should be prohibited from to holding political office in the US.

"If a Muslim who has -- who is -- a practicing Muslim who believes the word of the Koran to be the word of Allah, who abides by Islam, who goes to mosque and prays every Friday, who prays five times a day -- this practicing Muslim, who believes in the teachings of the Koran, cannot be a loyal citizen to the United States of America," she said.

Gabriel added that because Muslim's are permitted to lie "under any situation to make Islam, or for the benefit of Islam in the long run" their promise to uphold US laws while holding public office is meaningless.

"A Muslm sworn to office can lay his hand on the Koran and say 'I swear that I'm telling the truth and nothing but the truth,' fully knowing that he is lying because the same Koran that he is swearing on justifies his lying in order to advance the cause of Islam," she told students last year. "What is worrisome about that is when we are faced with war and a Muslim political official in office has to make a decision either in the interest of the United States, which is considered infidel according to the teachings of Islam, and our Constitution is uncompatible [sic] with Islam -- not compatible -- that Muslim in office will always have his loyalty to Islam."

Weinstein said he was familiar with Gabriel's "bigoted work" and said he intended for the Military Religious Freedom Foundation to take legal action against the Pentagon because her invitation to speak at high-level military events is "yet another example of the pernicious and pervasive pattern and practice of unconstitutional rape being visited upon our military members by the draconian specter of overwhelming fundamentalist Christian command influence."

"This woman is a putrescent example of a clear proponent of ethnic cleansing and the fact that she would be invited as an honored, paid guest into the hallowed halls of one of the nation's most prestigious military officers' staff colleges represents unconstitutional complicity that cries out for only one word: treason," Weinstein said.

In response to a U.S. plan to shoot down a malfunctioning spy satellite, China has warned against threats to security in outer space, without mentioning its own successful anti-satellite missile test last year.

The Chinese government also stopped short of linking the planned U.S. strike with Beijing's repeated calls for a complete ban on space weapons.

Security analysts have suggested that Beijing could use the planned U.S. interception to justify the Chinese military's unannounced destruction of a defunct weather satellite in January 2007.

That interception drew criticism from senior U.S. military officials, who complained that it had left a cloud of debris that was dangerous to other space traffic. Chinese experts in turn have questioned the Pentagon's explanation that it wanted to down the spy satellite to avoid contamination from hazardous fuel on board.

"In my opinion, this decision is imprudent and ill advised," said Li Bin, an arms control specialist at Tsinghua University in Beijing. "If this satellite is shot down, the toxic fuel will still be there. Therefore, the pollution still exists."

But, Li said, destroying the satellite would be an effective way to prevent sensitive technology from falling into the wrong hands.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Liu Jianchao, said the Chinese government was highly concerned about the U.S. plan, Xinhua, the state-run news agency, reported late Sunday, noting that the target satellite was loaded with toxic fuel.

Liu also urged Washington to fulfill its international obligations and avoid threatening security in space and the security of other countries, Xinhua quoted him as saying, without elaborating.

"Relevant departments of China are closely watching the situation and working out preventative measures," Liu said.

Just days after China and Russia renewed their call for a global ban on space weapons at a disarmament conference, the United States announced late last week that it was preparing to fire a missile at the crippled reconnaissance satellite during one of its passes over the Pacific by the middle of next week.

The United States opposes treaties or other measures to restrict space weapons.

In what will be a challenging test of the antiballistic missile technology that the United States and some of its allies are developing, the interceptor will be fired from an U.S. warship just before the satellite is expected to plunge uncontrollably back to earth.

The Pentagon said President George W. Bush had ordered the mission to prevent possible contamination of inhabited areas.

It said the interception was not a weapons test or a demonstration for potential adversaries.

Russia denounced the planned downing of the satellite on Saturday, saying it could be a subterfuge to test a space weapon.

China's warning about the threat to security in space comes after a period of friction in the sometimes troubled military relationship that it has with the United States.

In November, Beijing unexpectedly denied permission for the U.S. aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk and other U.S. warships to visit Hong Kong, setting off a diplomatic dispute.

Ship visits have resumed, but underlying tensions, particularly over Taiwan, mean the relationship is prone to further disagreements.

China, which claims sovereignty over the self-governing island, has not ruled out the use of force if Taiwan moves toward formal independence. Washington has become concerned in recent years about Beijing's rapid military buildup in the area, which appears to be aimed at gaining superiority over the island's defenses and deterring U.S. intervention in any conflict.

There are now fears that the U.S.-Chinese rivalry could spill over into an arms race in space, with both sides capable of destroying satellites.

The United States shot down a satellite with a missile fired from a fighter aircraft in a 1985 test.

For the Chinese military, the capacity to destroy U.S. navigation and communications satellites could undermine the overwhelming technological dominance that U.S. forces have enjoyed in recent conflicts, according to U.S. and Chinese security experts.

They say that space weapons including antimissile satellites could contribute to Beijing's "area denial" strategies, which are intended to keep U.S. forces at bay in a war over Taiwan.

In academic papers, books and magazine articles, Chinese strategic thinkers have identified U.S. dependence on satellites for battlefield communications, guiding smart weapons, reconnaissance and weather forecasting as a potential weakness that could be exploited.

Senior U.S. military commanders have acknowledged that without the advantage of satellites, U.S. forces could be forced to fight as they did decades ago, without detailed information about the battlefield and enemy movements.

The successful destruction of the ailing U.S. spy satellite would send a reminder to Beijing that China's space assets would also be at risk in a conflict, experts said.

But China is also increasingly vulnerable to this kind of warfare as it deploys high-technology weaponry. China has been devoting considerable resources to building and deploying its own communication, navigation and weather satellites in recent years.

Some analysts have suggested that Beijing ultimately wants to deploy an independent navigation satellite constellation with similar capabilities as the Global Positioning System network.

The Dangers of High Fructose Corn Syrup

High Fructose Corn Syrup

Before we get to high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), we will take a look at two other frequently used sweeteners, dextrose and maltodextrin.

Dextrose

Dextrose is more or less an industry term for glucose. Glucose is the most prevalent sugar in the human and the only molecule that the brain can metabolize. Dextrose is refined from corn starch. It has a very high glycemic index (no surprise since it is glucose) and while it contains no fructose, it is still a simple sugar that is very readily absorbed. It is not as dangerous as sucrose but it still is a highly processed product that should be avoided.

Maltodextrin

Maltodextrin is also a refined product usually made from either corn or potatoes. It is multiple glucose units somewhat loosely hooked together (a polymer). Because the bonds between the glucose units are very weak, it is also very readily absorbed and has a very high glycemic index. Like dextrose it should be avoided as much as possible. It has been called a "sugar substitute"but that is based on a rather strict definition of sugar as "sucrose." It is a very common additive and I have found it in many packaged foods, including potato chips.

High Fructose Corn Syrup

High fructose corn syrup is made by treating corn (which is usually genetically modified corn) with a variety of enzymes, some of which are also genetically modified, to first extract the sugar glucose and then convert some of it into fructose, since fructose tastes sweeter than glucose. The end result is a mixture of 55% fructose and 45% glucose, that is called "high fructose corn syrup." Improvements in production occurred in the 1980's making it cheaper than most other sweeteners. I remember in the 1980's when the price of Pepsi dropped from about $3 for a sixpack to about $1.50. In 1966 refined sugar such as sucrose was the was the leading sweetener / additive. In 2001 corn sweeteners accounted for 55% of the sweetener market. Consumption of high fructose corn syrup went from zero in 1966 to 62.6 pounds per person in 2001. A 12 ounce soda can contain as much as 13 teaspoons of sugar in the form of high fructose corn syrup.

Once again, the dangerous combination: fructose and glucose.

When high fructose corn syrup breaks down in the intestine, we once again find near equal amounts of glucose and fructose entering the bloodstream. As covered in recent newsletters, the fructose short-circuits the glycolytic pathway for glucose. This leads to all the problems associated with sucrose. In addition, HFCS seems to be generating a few of its own problems, epidemic obesity being one of them. Fructose does not stimulate insulin production and also fails to increase "leptin" production, a hormone produced by the body's fat cells. Both of these act to turn off the appetite and control body weight. Also, fructose does not suppress ghrelin, a hormone that works to increase hunger. This interesting work is being done by Peter Havel at UC Davis.

Some of the problems associated with high fructose corn syrup:

Increased LDL's (the bad lipoprotein) leading to increasedrisk of heart disease.

Altered Magnesium balance leading to increased osteoporosis.

Increased risk of Adult Onset Diabetes Mellitus.

Fructose has no enzymes or vitamins thus robbing the body ofprecious micro-nutrients.

Fructose interacts with birth control pills and can elevate insulin levels in women on the pill.

Accelerated aging.

Fructose inhibits copper metabolism leading to a deficiencyof copper, which can cause increased bone fragility, anemia, ischemic heart disease and defective connective tissue formation among others.

Afghan martyr for Islam & Truth

As I posted before, I feel the Messiah's (as) martyrs in Afghanistan are a big reason why the nation is in the unending cycle of violence it can't seem to pull itself out of.

There were two Ahmadi martyrs of Afghanistan but the one of Sahibzada Abdul Latif Shaheed is a particularly interesting story that highlights man's obstinacy in refusing a Divine message/messenger.

I don't believe in evolution. We are what we are. Each individual is to evolve spiritually, living in his natural environment. There is absolutely no reason to believe man was "made" to "advance" toward anything.

As far as getting rid of the central banks, I am assuming you still believe in the institution of money, but are probably not silly enough to talk about the "gold standard".

Money is a means of exchange. Again not intrinsically good or bad but it must not have value in and of itself, nor should its production be monopolized, nor should it be created from thin air, nor should it operate on usury.

Importance of Prayer

Huzur gave a discourse on Salat in his Friday Sermon today. Huzur cited verse 46 of Surah Al Ankabut. The translation reads:

"Recite that which has been revealed to thee of the Book, and observe Prayer. Surely, Prayer restrains one from indecency and manifest evil, and remembrance of Allah is the greatest virtue. And Allah knows what you do." (29:46)

Huzur said we are indeed most fortunate to have accepted and believed in the true and ardent devotee of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) that is, the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace). However, this acceptance puts huge obligations on us to make endeavours to spiritually attain the station that was granted to the Companions of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him). If this is not our objective then we have not fully understood the purpose of the advent of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace). Huzur said each individual of the Community should realise that he/she will be truly worthy of the Divine promises made to the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) with regards his community when he/she will try and purify themselves. The Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) said that the use of the plural aakhareen (the latter-one) in verse 4 of Surah Al Jummah signifies that the one to come in the latter-days will not be alone, that he will be given a community who will attain the spiritual station of the earlier ones.

Huzur said Salat is the primary source of purifying the self, as the verse recited at the beginning signifies. The verse speaks of reciting the word of Allah, to spread it to others and to observe Salat, for Salat, when it is observed with its due requisites is a source of purifying the self. Huzur said it is the responsibility of each Ahmadi to focus on observing Salat, to observe each Salat at its prescribed time. The five daily prayers are the milestone from where the spiritual journey begins; it is the seed that has the potential of spiritual growth. If one is negligent with Salat, virtues are suppressed in the manner that weeds suppress the growth of a field. It is our task to make the roots of this worship so strong that it safeguards us from all evil. Indeed it is for us to observe Salat and establish it first, it is as a consequence of observing it sincerely that Salat safeguards us in return. Each Ahmadi should self-examine and see if we are fulfilling our dues to be abids (worshipper of Allah) as well as conducting ourselves with high morals and courtesy with people.

Only then will we be among those who fulfil the purpose of the advent of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace). The Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) said that Salat alone is the virtue that dispels satanic weaknesses and that Satan wishes man to stay away from Salat because he knows it is Salat that would purify man. Fasting [during Ramadan] comes once every year and Zakat is for the well-off to observe, however, Salat is for everyone and should be observed, seeking Allah’s bounties for the treasures of Allah are always brimful all that is needed is the certainty that one is standing before an All-hearing, All-Seeing Being Who can provide in a spilt second if He so wishes. Just as a soldier would never surrender his best weapon in a battlefield Salat is the most excellent weapon for a believer and a believer should safeguard it at all costs.

Citing verse 239 of Surah Al Baqarah (2:239)

"Watch over prayers, and the middle Prayer, and stand before Allah submissively."

Huzur said various commentators have interpreted the term 'middle prayer' differently; it is an instruction in principle and 'middle prayer' can be applied to different people in accordance to their leanings towards worldly matters or their laziness that may make them negligent towards observing Salat. It can be the specific time for different people during a day when their attention diverts elsewhere by satanic enticements. If we can overcome this then consider that we safeguard our Salat and in turn Salat will indeed safeguard us. It is a continuous effort. This indeed is the condition of true obedience and one that brings about purification.

It is incumbent on each Ahmadi Muslim to honour the pledge they have taken after taking their bai'at - to demonstrate perfect obedience and endeavour to tread the path which gives the strength to contend with Satan, which strengthens the core of one's belief and one experiences one's prayers meeting acceptance in the heavens.

Huzur said sometimes two Salats are combined, at times it is due to a valid reason but at other times people simply make it a norm. Huzur said Allah has indeed fixed a time for each Salat as verse 79 of Surah Bani Israel states:

“Observe Prayer at the declining and paling of the sun on to the darkness of the night, and the recitation of the Qur'an in Prayer at dawn. Verily, the recitation of the Qur'an at dawn is specially acceptable to God.”(17:79)

Huzur read a most eloquent extract from the noble writings of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) elucidating the significance of the timings of the five daily Prayers. The Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) explains it with reference to a worldly phase man goes through. The time of Zuhr, when the sun, having reached its zenith has begun its decline, is likened to a time in a person’s life when he is faced with difficulty and is in a state of meekness, is anxious and in despair and makes all kinds of attempts in his restlessness, at this juncture we should reflect on our spiritual state and seek God’s help. Then, as the person’s anxiety is changed into the reality of perhaps receiving a warrant or a court summon and subsequently endures cross-examination to prove his innocence is a time likened to time of Asr; this is the time when a person should remember Allah and pray for protection from making mistakes and seek forgiveness. The scenario then changes to the court passing judgment against the person. This increases the person’s anxiety and despair. The time of Maghrib is likened to this situation when a person reflects over the day he has just spent and notices having done nothing commendable. So he turns to Allah and seeks forgiveness. The scenario then changes and the court passes the verdict, declaring the person guilty and the punishment begins. The time of Isha is compared to this, when the night is dark and nothing is visible. This time should make a believer take stock of all that he did during the day and should be mindful that the ensuing night is spent away from satanic enticements, lest one is led towards spiritual destruction. Eventually, as in a worldly scenario a prisoner is relieved upon release, a believer is pleased to receive the time of Fajr. It is as if the time of ‘ease after hardship’ (94:7) has arrived, therefore a believer should not be indolent about offering this Salat and in order to take care of one’s spiritual condition should abandon the comfort of one’s bed to observe Fajr. Indeed, each Ahmadi should endeavour to observe Salat on time as it is stated in verse 104 of Surah Al Nisa (4:104)

Huzur prayed that may Allah enable all of us to observe this most significant commandment. We cannot be really useful in the mission of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) who had come to continue the task of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) if we do not purify ourselves and we cannot purify ourselves unless we safeguard our Salat. Indeed the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) called the ‘spiritual pleasure’ experienced during Salat the earthly Paradise.

Next Huzur commented on the rather sad and regrettable news that Danish newspapers have reprinted a cartoon of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) in reaction to three people arrested for allegedly plotting to kill the man who drew the original caricatures. Huzur said they have thus demonstrated their petty mindedness. When the authorities have apprehended the perpetrators then why do they seek to hurt the Muslim ummah? Huzur wondered at the fairness of those who claim to be the standard-bearers of fair play. However, Huzur said there is Allah, the Best of judges; Who is Mighty and Who will demonstrate His justice. He alone is sufficient for those who commit such odious acts.

Huzur said it was our task to explain to these people, which we have done thoroughly. We explored all the avenues, we wrote articles in response, wrote to newspapers, met with the specific newspaper people, now we entrust the matter to Allah. As for ourselves, we need to try and put the blessed model of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) in practice more than before. We have a Lord Who the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) identified for us and our Lord loves the Prophet more than anyone else; Our Lord will indeed exhibit His Power. Our task is to take our hurt and turn to Him and profusely invoke blessings and salutations on the Prophet (Durud). We should pray more than before, we should try and purify ourselves more than before, we should invoke blessings on the Prophet more than before. These are the aspects that will cause them to fail and will be triumphant for us.

Huzur concluded on a prayer: ‘O Allah these people are being hurtful in presumption of their power. Remedy it, for You are All Powerful.

Last week's bombing in Dimona was the first martyrdom operation committed by Hamas in more than five years. For some time, we have been warning the world that the relentless pressure on our people would eventually tell. In the last two months, more than a hundred people have been killed by the Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip, including many civilians, women and children.

Thirty people have died in the last month for lack of medical care brought on by the embargo. Only two weeks ago, we saw the appalling sight of over 40 women and children seriously injured when an Israeli F-16 dropped an enormous bomb in the middle of the densely populated Gaza City, a few meters from a wedding party. This kind of atrocity, piled onto the daily death toll, has finally tested the patience of Palestinians, and after lengthy restraint, revenge was inevitable.

To many in Israel and the West, this act of resistance will be judged in isolation. They will no doubt say that it justifies the inhumane embargo on the people of Gaza and the arrests of more than 500 people and daily torture of innocents in the West Bank by both Israelis and the puppet government imposed on us by the U.S.

What they seem to forget is that just in the last two years, 2,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli military action and thousands more injured. The cold-blooded fact is that the ratio of Palestinian deaths to Israelis is now over 40 to 1.

The Hamas-led government has consistently called for a long-term cease-fire. For nine months before the election that brought us to power we observed a unilateral ceasefire, ensuring that no rockets were fired from Gaza by our movement. We observed this policy during the first six months in government, despite the fact that our words and actions were summarily dismissed by the Israelis and their U.S. allies.

If the people of Sderot want to know why rockets continue to land around them, they should ask their own government why it has continually rejected our calls for a cease-fire and continued its policy of daily incursions and reckless targeting that put the whole population at risk.

We have tried consistently to create some kind of reconciliation with Fatah. But every attempt has been ignored by Abu Mazen [Mahmoud Abbas]. The threat by Israel and the U.S. to cease negotiations if he cooperates with the lawfully elected Hamas government has led to political impotence in Ramallah. If our people can see no genuine and realistic political or economic horizon and their attempts to establish a genuine truce are consistently rejected, it is inevitable that they will turn to resistance as the only outlet for their anger and frustration. What happened at Rafah recently is a sign of what is likely to happen on a much larger scale if people can see no end to the relentless pressure and aggression that is part of our daily life here in Gaza.

While in the past we acknowledged the right of Abu Mazen to negotiate on behalf of our people, we believe that he has forfeited this mandate, as he no longer commands the respect of the majority of our people. Given the facts on the ground and the total mistrust that now prevails on all sides, we believe neither Israelis nor Palestinians are ready for final-status negotiations. It would be disastrous if the international community were to try to impose this, especially while we remain divided as a Palestinian people.

We have consistently suggested that the best solution to our problems is a long-term cease-fire that provides both sides with the space and opportunity to address our differences in an atmosphere of calmness and normality. We can have little optimism for the immediate future when it is impossible to see any clear light at the end of the tunnel that we are now forced to inhabit.

The United States is headed for a showdown with Russia and China this week over competing international treaties, one banning the production of nuclear materials and the other trying to prevent an arms race in space.

The squabble is certain to prolong an embarrassing stalemate at the U.N. Conference on Disarmament in Geneva that has received an unusual rebuke from U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, diplomats and analysts said.

U.S. officials said their top priority at the conference is beginning negotiations on the Fissile Material Cutoff Treaty (FMCT), which would ban the production of plutonium and highly enriched uranium for weapons purposes.

"We believe it is in everybody's interests to reduce the availability of fissile materials on the streets — [first] for producing bombs, which is a disarmament measure, and [second] preventing terrorists from getting hold of it, [which is] a nonproliferation measure," said Christina Rocca, the chief U.S. envoy to the conference.

Trying to reach an international agreement on such a ban has been one of the longest-running arms-control exercises since World War II. No agreement was secured during the Cold War, even after the groundbreaking deals between President Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.

The latest attempt to negotiate a treaty began more than a decade ago, but diplomats said getting 65 countries to agree to such a document has been difficult.

Now Russia and China have linked negotiations on the FMCT to a treaty that aims to prevent an arms race in space. They are expected to co-sponsor a draft in Geneva tomorrow.

Foreign diplomats and analysts suggested that Washington's push for the FMCT is an attempt to pre-empt that proposal. State Department officials countered that Moscow and Beijing are trying to upstage Washington with their draft.

"We put our FMCT draft forward in May 2006 and have been pushing it all along, before there was any talk of a treaty on outer space," one official said. "This is just another attempt to block the FMCT."

Another official said the United States opposes the Russian-Chinese proposal because it considers the 1967 Outer Space Treaty sufficient, although Washington is "prepared to look at new transparency and confidence-building measures."

"Given the dual nature of space activities, trying to negotiate something with the idea that you can prohibit the deployment of weapons in outer space but not their development is ludicrous," he said.

Daryl Kimball, executive director of the Arms Control Association in Washington, said the FMCT faces a "complex diplomatic web," because "everyone is saying that the other one is the bad guy."

Four of the five declared nuclear powers — the United States, Britain, France and Russia — have said publicly that they no longer produce fissile material. The fifth, China, has not made such a statement.

China opposes the FMCT, as do India and Pakistan, which still produce highly enriched uranium, analysts say. India also extracts plutonium, and Pakistan is expected to begin doing so in the near future.

India has said it would support the treaty only if it includes a verification mechanism. A verification provision was taken out of the text in the latest U.S. draft, which the Bush administration put on the table after a long review of a series of international treaties and proposals.

The administration said that effective verification was impossible to achieve.

Iran, Syria and Israel also are expected to object to the FMCT text.

The Conference on Disarmament, established in 1979, is desperate to break its long stalemate. Mr. Ban voiced frustration with the body's inability to overcome differences last month at its opening session for this year.

"Even with widespread agreement on the gravity of threats to international peace and security, you still have not been able to find common cause to address them," he told the delegates. "I'm deeply troubled by this impasse over priorities."

Russia will submit to a UN disarmament conference a joint Sino-Russian proposal for an international treaty to ban the deployment of weapons in outer space. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will present the draft treaty to the UN-sponsored annual Geneva Disarmament Conference on February 12.

The United States has been critical of the Russian-Chinese initiative, especially following China's anti-satellite missile tests last year.

Donald Mahley, acting U.S. deputy assistant secretary for threat reduction, export controls and negotiations, said: "We see nothing in the new proposal to change the current U.S. position."

He said additional binding arms control agreements, "are simply not a viable tool for enhancing the long-term space security interests of the United States or its allies."

Washington said that after China tested an anti-satellite missile in January 2007, the U.S. administration had intensified work on a program called Space Situational Awareness (SSA). The program has been defined as "knowing the location and potential function of every object orbiting the earth active or inactive regardless of its size, its purposes, its mission and its status."

Russian President Vladimir Putin said last Friday that a new arms race had begun, but that Russia would not allow itself to be drawn into it.

Russia has also been unnerved by NATO's ongoing expansion and Washington's plans to deploy missile defense bases in Central Europe, which it says are needed to deter possible strikes from Iran and other "rogue states."

WASHINGTON (AFP) — The White House on Tuesday rejected Russia's call for a new treaty to ban the use of weapons in space, warning that ensuring compliance would be "impossible."

"The United States opposes the development of new legal regimes or other restrictions that seek to prohibit or limit access to or use of space," said spokeswoman Dana Perino.

The best way to prevent an arms race in space, said Perino, would be to "encourage discussions aimed at promoting transparency and confidence-building measures" so that countries are not in the dark about potential rivals' plans.

Her comments came after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia and China were proposing a new treaty to ban the use of weapons in space amid concerns of growing anti-satellite missile rivalry.

"Without preventing an arms race in space, international security will be wanting," Lavrov told a conference on disarmament in Geneva.

Perino said Washington welcomed international cooperation "to preserve the benefits of peaceful activities in space for everyone" and was "committed to preserving equal access for the peaceful uses of outer space."

But "proposed arms control agreements or restrictions must not impair the rights of the US to conduct research, development, testing and operation or other activities in space for US national interests," she said.

"Besides, any object orbiting or transiting through space can be a weapon if that object is intentionally placed onto a collision course with another space object. This makes treaty verification impossible," the spokeswoman said.

"The only way to determine such intent is to discuss each nation's policies and strategies for space activities, and we encourage discussions aimed at promoting transparency and confidence-building measures," she said.

Perino said past US administrations had "recognized the impossibility of achieving a verifiable and equitable space arms control agreement.

GENEVA (AP) — China and Russia renewed their push for a global ban on arms in space at a disarmament conference Tuesday with a proposal opposed by Washington on the grounds it is directed at U.S. military technology.

The proposal, which includes banning defensive missile shields, contrasts with a U.S. plan that urges countries to agree to halt the production of fissile material needed for making atomic warheads. Neither proposal appears to have any chance of gaining the full support of the 65-nation Conference on Disarmament, and the split is threatening hopes of reviving the disarmament process, which has gone nowhere since the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty was signed in 1996. "Russia is of course dissatisfied," said Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. "The substantive work of the conference has been blocked for 10 years now."

The solution is an international ban on space weapons, he told the Geneva-based body.But Washington has labeled the proposal a diplomatic ploy by Russia and China to gain a military advantage because it would prohibit an American missile interceptor system from being installed in the Czech Republic and Poland. In addition, the U.S. says, Chinese and Russian ground-based missiles that can fire into space would not be covered in the plan, which also says nothing of normal satellites that can be used as weapons against other satellites.

The Bush administration has stymied the Sino-Russian proposal since it was first raised in 2002, two weeks after the United States withdrew from the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty.

Bush signed an order in October 2006 tacitly asserting the U.S. right to space weapons and opposing the development of treaties or other measures restricting them. The U.S. did not speak at the conference Tuesday and its mission in Geneva refused to comment. But Washington points to China's launch last year of a ballistic missile that destroyed one of its old weather satellites and created thousands of pieces of space debris.

The test was widely criticized as a provocative display of China's growing military capability and has been used by the U.S. government to highlight why it needs to pursue programs to ensure that satellites and other spacecraft are protected. Jozef Goldblat, an author on disarmament who monitors the conference, said the space weapons proposal had no chance of gaining a consensus and intended only to pressure Washington on the missile defense it plans for eastern Europe.

While Russia and China likely will not succeed with their proposal, it is damaging the U.S. "because many countries are in favor of discussing it and that would be a diplomatic victory for the proponents," Goldblat said.

"People are afraid of anarchy in space," he said, citing traditional U.S. allies on security such as Canada that at least want to entertain the notion of a new treaty. The U.S. is trying to rally support for a ban on the production of all fissile material for the making of nuclear weapons. Such material is controlled under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, but nonmembers like India and Pakistan are not covered and China opted out of that part of the pact.

The American proposal would still allow the U.S. to recycle fissile material from old warheads it is dismantling and to produce new and better nuclear weapons.

Russia has threatened to target the Ukraine with nuclear warheads if the former Soviet republic joins Nato and accepts the deployment of United States anti-missile defences on its territory. President Vladimir Putin of Russia warned Ukraine's leader Viktor Yushchenko of "retaliatory actions" should his country join the Western alliance during a joint press conference in Moscow.

"It's frightening not just to talk about this, but even to think about, that in response to such deployment, the possibility of such deployments - and one can't theoretically exclude these deployments - that Russia will have to point its warheads at Ukrainian territory," he said.

The Russian and Ukrainian leaders had just held emergency talks in the Kremlin to avert a energy supply crisis over Kiev gas bill - a similar dispute two years ago led to power cuts across Europe.

Mr Yushchenko responded to the Russian pressure by insisting on Ukraine's right to decide its own foreign policy while stressing that his country's constitution would not allow US military bases on its territory.

"You understand well that everything that Ukraine does in this direction is not in any way directed at any third country, including Russia," he replied.

"We follow the principle that any nation has the right to define its own security. Our constitution does not allow deployment by a third country or bloc on Ukrainian territory."

Mr Putin has condemned Washington's plans to include Poland and the Czech Republic in a missile defence shield as a "new phase in the arms race".

Russia fears the shield will threaten its national security and tip strategic military balance in Europe.

"The goal [of the missile shield] is to neutralise our nuclear capabilities," said Mr Putin.

"This would prompt Russia to take retaliatory action."

Moscow has already declared that Russia will pull out of the Conventional Forces in Europe Treaty (CFE), which came into force in 1992 and restricts the deployment of troops and tanks near sensitive European frontiers.

Last week, John Chipman, the head of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, warned that the "next target of Moscow's assertive revisionism "could be the Intermediate Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty of 1987.

Both would be moves that would allow Russia to build a new generation of medium-range nuclear missiles capable of striking Western Europe. As relations between Russia and many of its near neighbours deteriorate, Ukraine has submitted a formal membership request to Nato, to be considered a summit of alliance leaders in the Romanian capital of Bucharest this April.

Mr Putin has accepted an invitation to attend the meeting and Russia's parliament last month voted to stop using Soviet-built military radars in Ukraine because of Kiev's Nato ambitions.

The prospect of Nato membership is also deeply controversial in the Ukraine, where opinion polls show that over half of the country opposes it.

Russia has revived the long-range air patrols that were once a standard feature of the Cold War and US defence officials confirmed that a pair of Russian TU-95 Bear bombers overflew a US aircraft carrier in the western Pacific at an altitude of 2,000 feet (660 meters) over the weekend.

Four F-18 fighters jets intercepted the Russian bombers on Saturday morning, but not before they had overflown the USS Nimitz.

It was the second time since July 2004 that a Russian Bear bomber has overflown a US aircraft carrier.

It was not immediately known whether the United States issued any protests with the Russians.

Yesterday's warning was Mr Putin's strongest to date about Kiev's efforts to join the Western alliance, and is the latest attempt by Moscow to reclaim its superpower status.

Mr Putin's unexpected outburst followed what had apparently been four hours of civil talks with Ukrainian President

Viktor Yushchenko at the Kremlin.

The two leaders settled a row over Ukraine's gas bills, minutes before a Moscow-imposed deadline on Kiev to pay up or face supply cuts that could have had a knock-on effect in Western Europe.

But Mr Putin then warned that Ukraine's aspirations to join NATO would restrict its sovereignty.

Membership would "lead to real consequences - bases, the missile shield, which we believe has as its aim the neutralisation of our nuclear missile capability, and which presents Russia with the need to take retaliatory measures".

Mr Putin added: "It's frightening not just to talk about, but even to think about, that in response to such deployment, the possibility of such deployments - and one can't theoretically exclude these deployments - that Russia will have to point its warheads at Ukrainian territory."

Mr Yushchenko responded by saying that Ukraine had the right to form its own foreign and defence policies, and noted that the Ukrainian constitution did not allow for foreign bases on its territory.

Also yesterday, the Pentagon played down a weekend incident in which a Russian bomber made a low-altitude pass over the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz near Japan.

The US Navy scrambled four F-18 fighters to escort away the Tupolev 95 - a propeller-driven strategic bomber.

While the Pentagon didn't consider the incident "provocative", it said it was weighing "the implications of this return to a Cold War mindset".

U.S. fighter planes intercepted two Russian bombers, including one that buzzed an American aircraft carrier in the western Pacific during the weekend, The Associated Press has learned. A U.S. military official says that one Russian Tupolev 95 flew directly over the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz twice, at a low altitude of about 2,000feet, while another bomber circled about 58 miles out. The official was speaking on condition of anonymity because the reports on the flights were classified as secret.

The Saturday incident, which never escalated beyond the flyover, comes amid heightened tensions between the United States and Russia over U.S. plans for a missile defense system based in Poland and the Czech Republic. Such Russian bomber flights were common during the Cold War, but have been rare since.

The bombers were among four Russian Tupolev 95s launched from Ukrainka in the middle of the night, including one that Japanese officials say violated their country's airspace over an uninhabited island south of Tokyo.

U.S. officials tracked and monitored the bombers as two flew south along the Japanese coast, and two others flew farther east, coming closer to the Nimitz and the guided missile cruiser USS Princeton.

As the bombers got about 500 miles out from the U.S. ships, four F/A-18 fighters were launched from the Nimitz, the official said. The fighters intercepted the Russian bombers about 50 miles south of the Nimitz.

At least two U.S. F/A-18 Hornets trailed the bomber as it came in low over the Nimitz twice, while one or two of the other U.S. fighters followed the second bomber as it circled.

The official said there were no verbal communications between the U.S. and the Russians, and the Pentagon has not heard of any protests being filed by the United States. Historically, diplomatic protests were not filed in such incidents because they were so common during the Cold War era.

This is the first time Russian Tupolevs have flown over or interacted with a U.S. carrier since 2004.

In that incident, a Russian Tupolev flew over the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk in the Sea of Japan on Jan. 29, 2004. Since then, however, relations between the U.S. and Russia have deteriorated to their worst point since the Cold War, largely due to the United States' plans to put a radar system in the Czech Republic and 10 missile defense interceptors in Poland.

The U.S. has defended the plan as necessary to protect its European allies from possible attacks by Iran. But the Kremlin has condemned the proposal, saying it would threaten Russia's security.

"We are being forced to take retaliatory steps," said Russian President Vladimir
Putin, who also warned that a new arms race is under way.

Japan, meanwhile, filed a formal protest with the Russian Embassy in Tokyo after Saturday's incident, saying that one of the Russian bombers crossed into Japanese airspace for three minutes. Russia has denied there was an intrusion.

First of all those translations contain extra words that don't appear in the arabic, apparently..

Also this refers to the prior scriptures which WERE abrogated and/or forgotten because they were not the final law.

For instance, the 1st verse you quoted is speaking of the evolution of the scripture of the Quran which contains anything relevant from ALL previous scriptures which God chose in his SUPREME Wisdom for the final law for ALL humanity.

In the 3rd verse it's talkin about punishment whether God forgives or not, it's up to him because he is the source of the commandment, that has nothing to do with abrogation, IE cancellation of a commandment, but rather that he simply can forgive or punish according to His own wishes because He made the commandment.

The last verse is a response to the constant questions on the prophet regarding the soul... It is saying the Quran or knowledge of the Quran can be taken away from you (IE prophet, or muslims) and then questions like the ones that meccans were putting to the prophet about the soul would confound him without the special mercy of Allah...

This is also prophetic because knowledge of the Quran has practically disappeared from the Ummah which is why they entertain ideas such as this erroneous 'abrogation' theory.

But in the next verse Allah refers to his mercy which indicates that someone appointed by him would correct the errors which have crept into the minds of the so-called 'scholars' and re-establish the eternal, pristine and perfect wholly dominant TRUTH of every single letter in the Quran. Verity of the mission of The Promised Messiah

Summary of Friday Sermon

delivered by the Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community

Huzur said the effects and characteristics of prayer are manifested during times of trial and tribulation and the truth of the matter is that our God is recognised through prayer. Huzur said without turning to Him and praying to Him the claim to have faith is meaningless. It should be the distinction of each Ahmadi to reach God through prayer and not just turn to Him in adversity but also in comfort and prosperity. However the belief of true believers is strengthened during difficult times and they make leaps of faith and try greater than before to seek God’s pleasure. Difficulties enhance their worship and remembrance of God. Such is the revolution the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) brought about among Ahmadis and as long as we adhere to this we will continue to absorb Allah’s blessings.

Huzur read an extract from the noble writings of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) which explained that between the supplication of a prayer and its acceptance great big misfortunes come to pass. However, those who are firm of faith can sense Allah’s support even in these difficult times and have the insight that Divine help does come. They are thus inspired to pray and supplicate even more. One should never get anxious and have negative feelings that Allah is not ‘listening’ to one’s prayer. Huzur said indeed turning to Allah is the distinction of a true believer and hard times further enliven one’s worship of God.

Huzur said these days it seems that an operation has ensued to harass Ahmadis in some countries. It is borne out of jealousy and has engulfed certain groups and governments to take certain steps against the Ahmadis. Huzur said the ‘fire’ of jealously was to flare up in the times of the Messiah, both among the non-Muslims and Muslims. Among the non-Muslims because they were not to take in Islam’s progress in the days of the Messiah and among the mullah because he was to fear losing his power and his pulpit and was to collude with outside forces. Huzur said may Allah give sense to the Muslims who are shooting themselves in the foot. If they try and fight the decree of Allah they will perish. However, they declare the Kalima albeit apparently so we should pray for them.

Citing verse 4 of Surah Al Jummah (62:4) Huzur said here Allah states about the latter-days and ends the verse on the words describing the two Divine attributes Al Aziz and Al Hakeem (The Mighty, the Wise) thus declaring that none can stop what the Mighty and Wise God decrees and that His message will reach where He wills it to reach no matter the hindrances and impediments those who envy put in the way.

Huzur said Ahmadis of the countries where persecution is meted out should pray for steadfastness and should further turn to Allah so that they may witness triumph at the earliest. Those Ahmadis who are in apparent peace and live in other parts of the world should pray for their brothers. Indeed believers are like one body, if one part of the body is in pain the entire body feels it. As for Ahmadis, well, they should feel the pain of any human being. When we will pray with sincerity God will remove our anxiety. Our opponents think their hindrances will impede our progress. If our Community was a man-made affair, it would have long perished considering the opposing uproars that have been raised against it in the past century. However, we have advanced each time the opposition sought to crush us. The persecution and opposition in Pakistan has opened ways of great advancement for us.

These days opposition in Pakistan is regurgitating. At every chance false court cases are filed against the Ahmadis. A court case was filed against a thirteen year old Ahmadi boy alleging that he beat up a Maulwi. Huzur said this is mischief; their objective is to harass and scare the young generation of Ahmadis to an extent that if they stay Ahmadis at all, they are reduced to dormant Ahmadis. By putting restrictions on our programmes in Pakistan they think they have succeeded in distancing our younger generation. These senseless people have no clue that they cannot blow out the light that is illumined by Allah. Huzur said he receives deeply sincere letters from young men of Pakistan who are eveready to honour the pledge they take and who are making great sacrifices and shall continue to make sacrifices, the opposition can never succeed in wavering our steadfastness. Huzur addressed the young men and said they should take their connection with God from strength to strength; this indeed was the glory of each Ahmadi young man, man, woman and child.

Huzur said similarly in India the mullah is harassing the Ahmadis; people who are only Muslims in name, with no knowledge of the Qur’an or Salat, are only aware that Ahmadis are Kafir. The Ahmadis, Huzur said, should continue to turn to God and do what it is that they are required to do. Huzur said they are bent on opposing us because they are consumed with envy that even after the death of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) a hundred years of Khilafat are completing whereas they had written us off a long time ago.

Huzur said there has been strong opposition in Indonesia for the past few years now. Ahmadi homes and Ahmadi mosques have been vandalised and burnt. In light of the persistence opposition and the way our Jama’at handled the matter the federal government made a treaty. The news of this pact spread to the internet via a newspaper. Huzur said some Ahmadis expressed themselves, admitting that they did not have the requisite knowledge, that in order to curb the mischief if we had to agree to certain things we should. They cited the reference of the incident of ‘Treaty of Hudaibia’ in which the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) had agreed to erase the words ‘Prophet of God’. Huzur explained that first of all it was the Prophet himself who had erased the letters, something that Hadhrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) could not bear to do. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) had explained that the treaty was being made with people who did not believe him to be a Prophet of God. Huzur said we have no business adopting flattery and take a step that would be embarrassing for the true and ardent devotee of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him). We consider Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani to be the Messiah and the Mahdi and we have no significance without this. Our beauty is in entering his community having accepted him as the Messiah. It is him who has taught us the ways and means to be absorbed in the love of the Prophet (peace and blessing of Allah be on him) and it was the Prophet himself who had given him the title of Messiah and Mahdi. Should we give up calling him Messiah and Mahdi to temporarily please others? Should we, despite being cognisant of all the Signs that have appeared in support of his truthfulness, try and appease the world? Be those who reject Divine testimony? Should we on one hand believe in the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) but on the other hand not believe the revelation that was given to him which said ‘Certainly you are the Promised Messiah and the Promised Mahdi who was awaited?’

Huzur said denying the Messiah and the Mahdi is denying the Ahmadiyya concept. Huzur said the context in which a newspaper published the news in Indonesia gave people a chance to raise a hue and cry that Ahmadis have changed their viewpoint and do not consider Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad a prophet but consider him a Mujaddad (a reformer). In its communication with the government of Indonesia the Indonesian Jama’at did not even hint the above as indeed no Ahmadi can ever entertain this thought. Huzur said the Indonesian Jama’at is a Jama’at of the highest order and their sincerity is second to none. Accepting the clauses in the treaty with the government did not denote any weakness of faith, however, as the words of Messiah and Mahdi were not specifically used in it, the newspaper got a chance to appear smug.

Huzur said he had clearly repudiated this in one of his Friday Sermons and the newspaper also clarified the issue but this gave the Lahore Movement a chance to show their inflexibility. Huzur said he would reiterate to the Lahore Movement and those who have not taken the pledge of allegiance to Ahmadiyya Khilafat to have some fear of God in terms of what our stance about the Promised Messiah is. Huzur remarked who has progressed in leaps and bounds: those who accept the Anjuman or those who consider Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as the Messiah and the Mahdi? Who is established in 189 countries of the world? Who has Allah’s practical testimony with them? Those who accept him as a Messiah or those who consider him a guru? Huzur went on to read an extract from the writing of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) elucidating his own truthfulness as the Messiah and as a prophet. The Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) explained that the only instance in which he denied prophethood for himself was with regard to being a bearer of a new Shariah but said that he had knowledge of the Unseen from Allah and that he was indeed a prophet. Huzur asked does this leave any room for doubt. Huzur said with the greatest of respect he would ask his lost brothers to come and join in the spiritual revolution and take the message of this zilli (in shadow of/in subordination) prophet to the corners of the world. Huzur said if any one is witnessing the fulfilment of Divine promises it is those who accepted him as a prophet and then went on to accept his Khilafat as well. Their message is reaching the far corners of the world on the airwaves and no power on earth can stop the manifestation of the Divine revelation he received, ‘I shall take your message to the corners of the earth.’ Huzur said many impediments and hindrances have come in spreading this message, however, Allah’s help and succour has always come and truly taken this message to the corners of the world. Temporary difficulties should not dishearten us for Allah’s promise to His Messiah is with us.

Huzur said recently many powerful Arab governments got together and blocked our MTA 3 Al Arabia satellite channel. This was borne of jealousy and done with no regard of courtesy and without prior warning. Huzur said many anxious messages were received from the Arab world, both from the Community and outside the Community over this sudden cessation of broadcast. However, Huzur said the people who wrote in would now know, through his sermon, why this came about. Citing verse 55 of Surah Al e Imran (3:55) Huzur said indeed Allah is the Best of planners, people made plans and schemes against the first Messiah and now they are making plans and schemes against the Messiah of Muhammad, however, we have Allah’s assurance, Who helps us in ways that we cannot even imagine. Huzur said the Al Arabia satellite was closed down for perhaps a day. Following this, we contacted a European satellite company and took them on board; this company has an even larger coverage. These are the ways of Allah. Temporary impediments come and indeed shall continue to come but no Ahmadi should be disheartened and should in fact further turn to Allah, fulfil our fardh (obligatory prayers) and also turn to nawafil. Engage profusely in remembrance of Allah, as this alone will open doors to triumph for us.

With our Khilafat Centenary approaching the envier will envy us even more. They grieve that Khilafat has been snatched away from them while we are enjoying its fruits. Some of our opponents now openly declare that the Muslim world cannot carry on without Khilafat. Huzur read an excerpt to this effect.

Huzur remarked if only these people abandoned their inflexibility and observe that the Imam Mahdi who they await has indeed come and his Khilafat is also now firmly established and no other Khilafat ‘on the precept of prophethood’ can now be established.

Huzur said while we pray that may Allah protect us from all their evils and keeps us steadfast, we should also pray for them for they have strayed from the truth. We should pray that may Allah enable them to adhere to the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace). May Allah make it so.
